Section 8 Prejudice trailer fights for survival

We loved Section 8 when it originally released, so the budget-priced Section 8 Prejudice has us excited as well. For those that don't understand why, just take a look at the tons of in-game footage this trailer has. Vehicles, combat missions, excellent sci-fi designs, and beautiful landscapes. It's a quick cross section of the things the developers have explained in previous videos, which is fitting given the game's imminent release.

Section 8 Prejudice to launch on PC May 4

Section 8 Prejudice finally has a firm release date for the PC platform. Developer Timegate Studios has announced that the second game in its sci-fi first person shooter series will be released via the Steam and Games For Windows Live download sites on May 4 for $15. Xbox 360 owners will get access to the game a couple of weeks earlier on April 20 and PS3 owners will have to wait until sometime this summer.

If you still own and play the original Section 8 game, you will be getting some nice in-game upgrades for your Section 8 Prejudice character. All Section 8 owners before April 20 will get access to the Aegis Armor and the Reactive Plating upgrade. Players who have level 25 character or above will get the Ablative Plating upgrade while the level 50 players get access to the Explosives Amplifier upgrade.

Section 8 Prejudice trailer gets awkward and hilarious

Humor which makes us feel awkward and uncomfortable is our favorite kind, and this trailer for Section 8 Prejudice has that in spades. Following a single woman as she explores the TimeGate lot and attempts to find a partner, it's strange and surreal and borderline offensive. It's also hilarious, and it gives a good look at some of the new features. Our personal favorite is the new Pulse Cannon, which s shown in-game blowing enemies around. There's a fine line between being irritating and being funny, and while this trailer toes it, it doesn't truly get annoying.

Report: Section 8 Prejudice now due for release in "just a couple more months"

Developer Timegate Studios had originally planned for its downloadable sci-fi shooter Section 8 Prejudice to be released sometime in the first quarter of 2011. Now it's looking likely that the game is going to miss that release date time frame.

In a YouTube video posted from the PAX East 2011 show floor last weekend, a team member from Timegate states to the camera that Section 8 Prejudice is now planned for release in "just a couple more months". That would strongly suggest that the game isn't quite ready for release before the end of this month. We've contacted the game's PR reps to try to get a more concrete release date for the title.

Section 8 developer Timegate working on another "work for hire" game

Last week Timegate Studios CEO Adel Chaveleh revealed that the game development studio already has plans for another game in its Section 8 franchise following the release later this year of Section 8 Prejudice. However that's not the only game the team has in the works. Our sister site Joystiq reports that Timegate is working on a major game for a third party publisher. Chaveleh said the game would be announced "later this year" and that it is "playing to our team's strengths".

In the meantime the team is still working on self-publishing (via digital download) Section 8 Prejudice and that experience may turn Timegate into a publisher itself. Chaveleh states, " ... we're starting to talk with some external developers, as well, about being a conduit for either their content or helping us develop content." No details were revealed.

Third Section 8 game already planned; may not be first person shooter

Developer Timegate Studios is already planning to release the first person shooter sequel Section 8: Prejudice later in 2011 but according to Digital Spy the team already has plans to work on a third game in its sci-fi franchise. The article quotes Timegate CEO Adel Chaveleh as saying, " ... we're already working on the next one, and we're going to make it better and better."

Details on the third Section 8 game are scare but Chaveleh does say, " ... we don't know whether it's going to be a true sequel again or whether we are going to go off and do a new type of game in the Section 8 universe."

Feature: Hands-on with Section 8 Prejudice's Swarm mode; game to be priced at $14.99

Earlier this year it was announced that developer Timegate Studios was working on a sequel to its 2009 released sci-fi shooter Section 8. The sequel, Section 8 Prejudice, will be self-published by Timegate for digital distribution sometime in the first quarter of 2011.

Today we can finally reveal that Section 8 Prejudice will have a price point of just $14.99 when its released via download. That's for a game that contains more content than the original game which was priced at $50 for the PC version when it was first released. Section 8 Prejudice will have a full story-based five hour single player campaign along with the Conquest multiplayer mode with a full selection of maps, the new Swarm multiplayer co-op mode, bot support for both multiplayer modes, dedicated server support and a web portal where players can display their stats and in-game achievements. While the game will be using Games For Windows Live for things like achievements, the PC version of Section 8 Prejudice will be made available for purchase on other download services like Steam, Direct2Drive and Timegate's own online store (for console owners the game will also be released for the PS3's Playstation Network for $14.99 and for the Xbox 360's Xbox Live Arcade for 1200 Microsoft points).

Keep reading after the jump for more info on the game including hands-on impressions of the game's Swarm mode.
