Pivotal Games closes

Developer Pivotal Games, most well known for its work on the Conflict series, was closed today by parent company SCi Entertainment Group, reports Develop.

According to an Eidos spokesperson who spoke to Develop, "Eidos' parent company SCi Entertainment Group announced on 29 February its plans to re-structure its business and to focus on cornerstone studios and core franchises. As part of this process Eidos confirms that, despite reviewing a number of alternative options, we are closing Pivotal Games – but we will be keeping a team of 10-12 specialists in Bath, who will work on specific projects for group."

Pivotal Games' Conflict series spanned titles such as Conflict: Denied Ops, Conflict: Vietnam, Conflict: Desert Storm, and Conflict: Global Storm.

One offer enough Infogrames says

Back at the end of April, SCi Entertainment Group rejected an offer from Infogrames to buy out the publishing house. In a statement released today Infogrames said they have no plans to make another offer anytime soon either. Once bitten, twice shy apparently.

However, the statement did include a caveat. Infogrames said they reserve the right to change their minds if things should change in the next six months. That seems unlikely however since SCi entered into a strategic partnership with Warner Bros. in April. The timing was quite interesting as the announcement of their partnership with the WB came one week after revealing they had rejected an offer from an at-the-time unknown party. Guess we know who the mystery suitor was now, don't we?
