Gametap adds Rayman Raving Rabbids to service; Sacrifice free until Oct. 7

GameTap's regular weekly update to their PC game download/subscription service has an interesting new addition this week. It's Rayman Raving Rabbids, the 2006 released PC version of Ubisoft's collection of mini-games that actually found a bigger audience when it was a Wii launch title. The PC version is GameTap's newest game for its premimum month subscribers.

In addition, GameTap has give its free users another new game to play with from now until October 7. It's Sacrifice, the unusual RTS game from the now defunct Shiny Interactive and publisher Interplay. If you want more info about this classic game check out Big Download's recent Boot Disk article on Sacrifice.

Boot Disk: Sacrifice

Sometimes you just need to sit down, slide a floppy into your A: drive, and enjoy gaming retro style. We know this all too well! That's why we have a list of the best and brightest from days long gone. These are some of our favorite games of all time, and we're sure that you'll love them as much as we do, if not more. Welcome to Boot Disk, and enjoy the retro ride!

The real-time strategy genre is an interesting one. While there are your traditional games, like Command and Conquer or Warcraft, there are some alternatives as well. Games that attempt to break the mold they are crafted from or inject innovations from other genres into the realm of strategy. Sacrifice is one of these games. Hailed as one of the first hybrids of the real-time strategy and action genres, it rapidly became known for its unique gamepaly, compelling story, and high production values. Now that Interplay has released their old catalogue for the world to experience, there's no reason not to give Sacrifice a try.

Interplay games now on Steam

Steam has just added yet another publisher to its long list of companies that are contributing games to their library of downloadable PC game titles. This time it's Interplay, the once mighty PC game publisher that has pretty much withered down to a shadow of its former self.

However they did make some great games once and Steam now has a number of Interplay's terrific catalog titles available for download and purchase. These include the first two Fallout RPGs along with Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel, Sacrifice and Kingpin: Life of Crime. Also for the next week you can purchase all these games at 10 percent off their normal Steam price.

GoG.com offers up their own weekend sale special

Taking a cue from Valve's weekend Steam sales, CD Projekt's classic game download web site GoG.com is also offering their own weekend sales bundle. This time the sale is for two great Interplay games; the odd action game Giants: Citizen Kabuto and the weird RTS title Sacrifice.

Both games are now on sale as a bundle for just $9.98. As with their other bundle deals if you already downloaded and bought one of the two games from GoG.com you can get the other with a $1 discount. The bundle sale ends on Monday at midnight ET so, as usual, if you snooze you lose.

Gametap offers Hitman Contracts for one week free

Free games are (usually) worth it and for this week's update for the Gametap downloadable game service you can try out Hitman Contracts, the third game in the third person action game series from developer Io Interactive and publisher Eidos. You can control Agent 47 for one week on the Gametap service for free. The game itself recreates a number of the levels and situations from the original Hitman: Codename 47 game in a more "grim and gritty" manner.

New games added to Gametap's paid premimum service this week include the adventure game Jack Keane and Sacrifice, a classic and weird RTS game from the now defunct Shiny and Interplay.
