Gametap adds Rise of Nations to library

The PC game download service Gametap continues to add classic PC game titles from Microsoft's publishing catalog. Today the site is scheduled to add Rise of Nations, the historical RTS game from developer Big Huge Games. The 2003 released title was the first game from the developer who later released a follow-up, Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends. In 2008 the company was bought by THQ but just a few weeks ago 38 Studios announced it was acquiring the studio.

Gametap will also offer the fantasy action-RPG title Sacred Gold as part of their free-to-play game tier. The title will remain free on the service for the next week..

New American McGee's Grimm episode released on Gametap

The Gametap digital download service continues to release new chapters of its episodic game series American McGee's Grimm. Today the latest episode is released, based on the Mulan legend, as as with previous releases this new chapter is free to play for the next 24 hours. As you may know the development team behind the game, Spicy Horse, is now working on their next project which is a new title in the American McGee's Alice series for publisher EA.

Gametap has also put one of their library tites into the "free-to-play" section until March 5. This time it's Sacred Gold, the 2004 fantasy action-RPG and its expansion pack from developer Ascaron Entertainment. Of course Ascaron has already released a ful sequel, Sacred 2, that was released for the PC back in October. In addition Gametap has returned a number of game titles to their free section, including Psychonauts, Metal Slug and Tomb Raider: Legend. They won't stay free forever as Gametap plans to rotate games in and out of the free section once a month.

Sacred Gold added to GameTap's free library

The recent sale of Gametap to European based Metaboli isn't stopping the service from adding new titles as it normally would. Just added to the free-to-play, ad-based version of the online service is the award-winning action role-playing game, Sacred Gold.

Originally released in 2004, Sacred Gold allows players to select from eight character classes in an epic adventure to save the magical continent of Ancaria. Often compared to Blizzard's Diablo series, Sacred Gold was hailed for its imaginative story that sent each character class on its own specific missions.

Sarcred Gold consists of the original Sacred, the free expansion Sacred Plus and the 2005 expansion Sacred Underworld. For the low price of free -- in exchange for seeing a few advertisments -- playing the classic RPG is a fantastic value. Besides, you need something to hold you over until Diablo III comes out, right?

Sacred Gold, Elf Bowling now available on Steam

Valve has sent word that two more titles have joined its growing legions of digitally distributed titles. The first, Strategy First's action-RPG Sacred Gold, contains Sacred, Sacred Plus, and Sacred Underworld. The fast-paced hack-n-slasher is an excellent way to pass time until Diablo III's release, which is certainly quite a ways off.

Elf Bowling: Hawaiian Vacation explores one extracurricular option for Santa's elves during their considerably lengthy off-season. "The zany crew has escaped from the workshop to hit the sand and surf in Elf Bowling Hawaiian Vacation," reads the Steam Elf Bowling web page. "Grab your sunscreen and flip flops, these elves mean business-funny business that is!"

Both titles are available now and run $9.99 each.

Games to play while waiting for Diablo III

A crowd of ecstatic fans cheered when Blizzard announced Diablo III at the 2008 Worldwide Invitational and gave an early look at its gameplay. Then reality set in, and people were reminded that they wouldn't be fighting off the forces of hell again for a very long time. To help people suffer through the long "when it's done" schedule Blizzard sticks to, we've put together recommendations to help gamers get their action RPG fix until it comes time to confront the Lord of Terror again. Check out our recommendations after the jump...
