Heroes of Newerth to get new ninja hero on Friday

It's time to start talking about the next new hero in developer S2 Games' popular fantasy action-RPG Heroes of Newerth. PC Gamer has posted up a preview of the new hero, which will be added to the game via a content patch on Friday.

This hero is the female known as Silhouette and as you can see she's got some ninja-style looks. Her powers and abilities include Shadow which lets her be in two places at once. She can use her included blades for close combat and ranged attacks and she's got a handy grappling hook as well. Look for more info on Silhouette before she's added to the game at the end of this week.

Heroes of Newerth adds new-old hero Nomad

Last Friday, developer S2 Games released the latest update for its popular multiplayer-themed action-RTS Heroes of Newerth. This content update added a "new" hero, Nomad, to the game. In fact an earlier version of Nomad was part of the game's closed beta test.

A new video shows off more of the Nomad in action can be seen above. Some of the hero's special abilities include creating a sandstom that increases movement speed for the hero and any allies in the cloud along with making the players themselves invisible in the sand cloud. There's another special ability that create a "mirage" of the Nomad that deals damage and makes the real hero invisible for three seconds.

Heroes of Newerth gets new hero Tremble on Friday

Heroes of Newerth will be getting a new content update on Friday and players of the online action-RTS game will be getting a chance to control the game's latest hero. Tremble, as seen above, is a giant cross between a crab and an spider and has some interesting abilities.

One is Dark Swarm, which generated magic damage from enemies while also reducing the amount of damage to Tremble. Yet another ability is the Impalers which can reduce speed on an enemy target while also increasing attacks and also healing more while attacking. Finally Tremble can summon a pal, Shudder, that has more abilities including immobilization of enemies. You can check out a trailer showing off Tremble and Shudder after the jump:

Heroes of Newerth may not have gotten the publicty of a lot of better known PC game franchises but the downloadable multiplayer action-RPG from S2 Games has been doing pretty well, selling 400,000 copies since the game officially launched in May 2010. The game has also received constant content updates and improvements (including a major free update, dubbed Heroes of Newerth 2.0, last December).

Later today the game will receive its latest official content update and this one is a bit different. It will add a new hero to the game, Aluna, that's actually co-created and voiced by movie and TV actress Paula Garces who has appeared in The Shield, the Harold and Kumar movies and Warehouse 13, among many other credits. The character of Aluna was originally created for a comic book and soon Heroes of Newerth players will be able to check out Garces' alter ago in the game.

Big Download got a chance to ask some questions to Garces about bringing her character to Heroes of Newerth. We also asked S2 Games' senior game designer Pu Liu about current and upcoming plans for the game itself.

Heroes of Newerth gets actress Paula Garces in its game

Heroes of Newerth has new Heroes added to the action-RPG game on a regular basis by its development team S2 Games. However for its next hero, the female Aluna, the team is doing something a little different. The official Heroes of Newerth email newsletter revealed today that Aluna will have a real world actress, Paula Garces, behind it. The Colombia-born Garces is the basis for the look of the Latina-inspired Aluna character and also provided the hero's voice. Aluna will be added to the game on Friday.

Garces has had an extensive career in both movies (the lead in Clockstoppers and as Maria in the Harold and Kumar movies) and TV (a regular on The Shield and more recently a recurring character on Warehouse 13). She currently hosts The Look on the cable TV show Mun2.

Duke Nukem voice actor can be your Heroes of Newerth announcer

Duke Nukem Forever may be coming out this May but that's not the only game that you will be able to hear voice actor Jon St. John do his level best to put some manliness into your PC game experience. This week the action-RTS game Heroes of Newerth released a new patch update that adds a new announcer voice pack (the Bad Ass Pack), with Jon St. John's distinctive voice as a paid premium option.

You can check out a trailer showing off Jon St. John's voice work as the game's announcer after the jump. You can also check out the full patch notes which have some balance changes and well as some changes to the in-game store currency.

Heroes of Newerth update officially adds Empath hero

Heroes of Newerth has issued its latest automatic update and this week the action-RTS game from developer S2 Games has, as promised, added a new hero to play with. It's the Empath, a female hero with a number of interesting abilities. One is being able to sap health from an enemy while the Empath can run freely. Another power allows the hero to create a mystical wall that will allow only allies to move through it.

The final ability lets the Empath jump into a friend's body, giving the friend a boost in attack, speed and damage. The Empath takes zero damage while inside her teammate and can still use her skill. You can check out a gameplay trailer showing the Empath in action after the jump:

Heroes of Newerth reveals new Hero Empath in video

Earlier today we reported that League of Legends was going to introduce a new Champion in its action-RPG game. Now comes word that one of its big rivals in this growing genre, Heroes of Newerth by developer S2 Games, is about to release its own new "Hero" called Empath.

Empath is shown in action in the above YouTube video. While there are no official descriptions of the new Hero's powers and abilities, she seems to be able to generate some kind of magic energy wall. There also seems to be some kind of link between Empath and another of the game's Heroes Rampage. The new Hero will debut in Heroes of Newerth this Friday, February 4.

Heroes of Neweth 2.0 officially launches

It's happening a little later than planned but today developer S2 Games has released a massive new and free update to its fantasy action-RTS game Heroes of Newerth. The 2.0 update to the title that's greatly inspired by Defense of the Ancients contains a ton of new content and changes.

You can check out detailed patch notes on the game's change log web page. In short, the 2.0 update adds a new Casual gameplay mode, a new 3v3 map to the game, and a new in-game store where players can purchase cosmetic (i.e non-gameplay influencing) items). Other additions and improvements include a revamp of the game's matchmaking system, new interface features, the release of the beta version of the game's map editor and more.

Heroes of Newerth shows off casual mode in new video

A little while ago we reported on the plans by developer S2 Games to offer up a bunch of new features in its action-RTS game Heroes of Newerth. Today the PC Gamer web site posted up a new YouTube video showing off one of the new features; the game's casual mode.

As you can see above the casual mode is far more forgiving for new players than the fairly hardcore gameplay of the main game. It includes more gold to collect from dead opponents while not losing any gold if you manage to die off during a match. As we mentioned a few days ago, the free update will also include a new map, a revamped matchmaking tool, a level editor and lots more. The 2.0 update should be available later this month.
