R.U.S.E PC demo released on Steam

As promised via online ads for the game earlier this week, a playable PC demo for R.U.S.E. is now available for download via its Steam web page. The demo for the upcoming WWII-themed RTS game by pubisher Ubisoft and developer Eugen Systems apparently consists of just one single player mission that was made especially for the demo as you control Allied forces in Italy against German armies.

The title, which uses dummy units and other methods of deception and cloaking to keep you and your enemies guessing, is still slated to be released in the US on September 7. People who pre-order the game via Steam will gain access to two extra multiplayer maps.

New R.U.S.E. Steam beta (or maybe demo) coming July 15?

It's been a long while since there's been any concrete info on the status of R.U.S.E., the decoy-filled WWII RTS game from developer Eugen Systems and publisher Ubisoft. Currently the game is set for release sometime in September after a couple of announced delays.

However R.U.S.E's Senior Producer Mathieu Girard made a post on the game's message board earlier this week that the team has been busy working on the game and that, "In a matter of days, I will announce a big surprise, a special treat for all our fans." That announcement may have been made on the game's official Facebook page with the above piece of artwork showing Valve's Steam logo with the numbers "15-7". Does that mean that Ubisoft could restart the Steam multiplayer beta for R.U.S.E. on July 15? Perhaps a full-fledged demo? Stay tuned.

R.U.S.E. delayed again until late September

A highly anticipated RTS game has had its release delayed once again. The official Facebook page for R.U.S.E has announced that the title's release has been pushed back from June to sometime in late September. The game was originally supposed to be released in the first quarter of 2010.

According to the Facebook announcement, the decision to delay the game from developer Eugen Systems and publisher Ubisoft once again was based on the feedback from the PC public beta test that concluded earlier this month via Steam. The note states, " . . . this extra time will allow us to implement many of your suggestions and improve the multiplayer experience while polishing the overall game." Among the things the dev team plans to improve are the multiplayer menus, the unit selection and the strategic AI behavior.

R.U.S.E. open beta test to end on April 12

If you haven't had a chance to try out the public beta of R.U.S.E., your time is nearly up. Steam, which hosts the current beta to Eugen and Ubisoft's upcoming and unusual WWII RTS game annouced that the beta for the game will now end on April 12. Originally the open beta was due to shut down this week but Ubisoft decided to extend the beta test for a few more days "due to popular demand."

Of course you can still pre-order the full version of the game before it's released in early June. People who put down their money early via Steam will be able to get two more exclusive challenge maps.

R.U.S.E gets new June 8 US release date; open beta begins on Steam

If you want to check out an RTS game that uses deception and trickery as a key part of its gameplay, R.U.S.E. may be for you. Today the open beta of the game from developer Eugen Systems and publisher Ubisoft launched today via Steam. Anyone with a Steam account can now download the beta test for the WWII themed game which has six factions (US, USSR, UK, France, Germany and Italy) and seven multiplayer maps which can be played in a variety of modes. There's no word on when the open beta will end.

In related news, Ubisoft has now confirmed June 8 for R.U.S.E's release date in the US. Previously the publisher stated the game would be coming out on June 3.

Feature: Hands-on with R.U.S.E. multiplayer beta

Today, developer Eugen Systems and publisher Ubisoft plan to launch the closed beta test for their upcoming and rather unique real time strategy game R.U.S.E. However, Big Download got an early chance to play the beta build this weekend. Press folks got to play some 1v1 matches against the gamers who attended the latest Dreamhack LAN event in Sweden, who also got early access to the beta test build

If you have read our previous articles about R.U.S.E., then you know it's basic premise; it's a real-time strategy game that uses a World War II setting. Now before you run away screaming about yet another WWII RTS game, you should know that it takes some different design tracks right off the bat. Instead of a typical "fog of war" you can technically see what the enemy is doing in matches to a limited degree and vise verse. The catch? You and your opponent can use various R.U.S.E. abilities to conceal your activities, build dummy units or buildings and basically make your enemy think twice about attacking your positions.
