Grand Theft Auto IV PC coming to Steam; video editor explained

It looks like Rockstar Games is going to make it easier to grab their upcoming PC port of Grand Theft Auto IV than previously thought. The open world action game port will also be available to download via Valve's Steam service on Dec. 2, the same day the retail version is scheduled to ship to stores. The game is not yet available for pre-order via Steam so there's no word yet if there will be any pre-order discount.

In related news, the game's official web site has posted up some info on the PC version's exclusive movie editor. Hitting on the F2 key during the game will save the last 30 to 45 seconds of gameplay in the video editor. You can then open up the editor via your in-game mobile phone to change things like the camera angle, speed, depth of field and others. You can also edit in other clips you made in the game, add things like titles and transitions and then upload the video to the Rockstar Social Club site to show off your video to the world. Other members can then rate and comment on your video creations.

GTA IV PC delay confirmed; updated system requirements revealed

While Rockstar Games never got back in touch with us about the apparent delay in the release of Grand Theft Auto IV for the PC, they apparently had time to call back IGN. They confirmed what we reported on previously this week that the game's release date would in fact be pushed back two weeks, from Nov. 18 to Dec. 2.

The news story also has some updated system requirements for the PC port of the open world action game. Micrsoft's Games For Windows web site previously posted up some preliminary info but this is apparently the official specs your PC rig will need to run the game:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8Ghz, AMD Athlon X2 64 2.4Ghz

Slight delay in Grand Theft Auto IV PC release?

Earlier this summer PC gamers got the good news that Rockstar Games' open world action game Grand Theft Auto IV would be coming to the PC on Nov. 18. Now it's looking like we will have to wait a couple of weeks longer that previously announced.

Online retailers like Gamestop and Amazon.com are now showing a Dec. 2 release date for the PC port. We've emailed Rockstar Games to get some confirmation on this since retail web sites can be wrong on their ship dates at times. However delay of a couple of weeks isn't that significant when you consider that other console games like Mirror's Edge and Saints Row 2 are looking like their PC ports will be delayed into 2009.

Game developers and execs contribute to US Presidential campaigns

Game Politics has been doing an excellent job covering which game developers and game industry executives have been contributing money to the various US Presidential campaigns. It shouldn't come as a shock that most of them are Democrats who have given money to that political party's nominee Barack Obama.

So far nine game industry members including Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello, Take Two Interactive chairman Strauss Zelnick, Rockstar Games co-founder Sam Houser and Sony Online CEO John Smedley have all given money to Obama's campaign. Only three gaming reps have given money to the Republican candidate John McCain; Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, 38 Studios founder Curt Schilling and, in what might be a surprise to some, Maxis founder Will Wright.

MODmonday: Kung Fu (Max Payne 2)

While Xbox 360 and PS3 users have worked themselves into a veritable tizzy over downloadable content, PC users have been accustomed to having the lifeline of their favorite games extended far past their in-the-box values since the days of Doom - and even before that. Big Download understands that a five-hour game can be extended by hundreds of hours via total conversions, brand new monsters, and weapons you've always wanted to see in your favorite title. Half-Life, Half-Life 2, StarCraft, Diablo II, Doom and more will all be represented here, ensuring a wide spread of mods available across every possible genre of PC gaming.

This week's MODmonday modification is Kung Fu, a mod for Max Payne 2 that puts players in control of a blocky Bruce Lee lookalike. Rockstar Games PC titles 50 percent off on Steam this week

Friday is here and while we seem to be teetering on a major financial meltdown it might be a good time to get some cheap games while you still have money. Valve's Steam service offers up its weekend sale as an example and this week its for the entire Rockstar Games PC catalog.

All of the games that Take Two's Rockstar brand has available for the PC are now available in this sale. That includes all of the Grand Theft Auto games, both of the Max Payne titles, Midnight Club 2 and Wild Metal. All of these games are now priced at 50 percent off their normal price tags for this weekend only. Rockstar is expected to release two more PC games later this fall; Bully and the highly anticipated port of Grand Theft Auto IV.

Grand Theft Auto IV PC system requirements revealed?

While Rockstar Games is known for keeping details about their titles secret until the last minute it seems like Microsoft's Games for Windows web site may have gotten a little bit of a scoop. They have the recommended system requirements for the upcoming PC port of Rockstar's open world action game Grand Theft Auto IV.

Are these the correct numbers? They are pretty bare bones but Microsoft's Games For Windows program does require games that have the logo reveal certain hardware requirements to Microsoft so we are betting these are accurate. So without anymore waiting here they are:

OS: Windows XP SP2
Processor: Dual core processor (Intel Pentium D or better)
RAM: 2GB
Hard Drive: 18GB free hard disk space
Video Card: 512MB Direct3D 10 compatible video card or Direct3D 9 card compatible with Shader
Drive: DVD-ROM dual-layer drive

Take Two's newest financial numbers exceed expectations

Take Two Interactive released their latest financial numbers, this for for their fiscal quarter that began May 1 and ended on July 31. As expected sales from their hit open world action game Grand Theft Auto IV on the PS3 and Xbox 360 helped the publisher get $433.8 million in revenue for the quarter, over double the $206.4 million amount it got in revenues for the same period a year ago. Take Two recorded a profit of $51.8 million for the quarter, compared to a loss of $58.5 million for the same period a year ago. Those figures exceeded Take Two's previous predictions.

PC owners can expect just one game from Take 2 for the remainder of its 2008 fiscal year (it ends October 31) with the release of Civilization IV: Colonization. The 2009 fiscal year is expected to see the release of the PC port of GTA IV (most likely this November) with titles like BioShock 2, Borderlands, Champions Online and Mafia 2 expected to be released sometime in the 2009 calendar year.
