This Week In PC Games: May 10-16

This week a big commercial expansion pack is released for a major fantasy MMO along with a few downloadable game releases. In addition to the games listed below, a new Sword of the Stars collection (with the original game, all the expansion packs and a new scenario) will be released this week along with the Equalizer Pack for Mass Effect 2. And keep in mind that the Mac client for Steam is scheduled to be released on Wednesday.

Age of Conan: Rise of the Godslayer: Funcom releases the first major commercial expansion pack for their fantasy MMO since the original Age of Conan was released nearly two years ago. The expansion adds a new land to the game, the Empire of Khitai, along with new quests, monsters and more. Current subscribers to the game can get the expansion via download. There's also a new retail version of Age of Conan this week containing the original game and the expansion in one package.

Rocket Knight heads to PC via Steam on May 12

After announcing a May release date for its Rocket Knight revival, publisher Konami has given all of us a specific date as to when we can engage in some rocket pack-flying action. According to their Facebook web site the downloadable title will be available for the PC via Steam on May 12.

Just a reminder for those of you who have been stuck in a cave for the past few months: This new Rocket Knight game from developer Climax is a sequel to Konami's previous game with the same title that was first released in the 1990s. As with the original it stars action-packed possum Sparkster who uses his rocket pack and sword to fight wolf-like enemies in four different worlds. Pricing for the game has still yet to be revealed.

Rocket Knight due for release in May via Steam

Konami rarely releases PC games but they are making an exception for their upcoming downloadable platformer Rocket Knight. Today the publisher announced via a new fact sheet that the game would be released for the PC via Steam in May. The game, from developer Climax, was first announced back in October.

As we have previously reported this new Rocket Knight game is actually a sequel to Konami's previous game (released over 15 years ago) starting action-packed possum Sparkster. Using his rocket pack and sword, he has to fight wolf-like enemies in four different worlds. Pricing for the game has yet to be revealed.

Rocket Knight gets official press release and screenshots

After a first look reveal on 1Up.com, Konami has now issued their official press release for Rocket Knight, the revival of their classic action game series. The game is set for a downloadable release for the PC and other platforms in 2010.

Konami also released new screenshots from the "2.5D" side-scroller that reunites old-time gamers with the action-pack possum Sparkster. Using his sword and rocket pack, Sparkster will have to battle "a hostile wolf army looming to take the lives of the Zephyrus people." Look for the game to have timed levels and leaderboards for gamers to compare themselves to others.

Konami to revive Rocket Knight for PC

In the spirit of reviving old game franchises like Monkey Island and Bionic Commando, 1Up.com has the first word on a new version of Rocket Knight, a series from publisher Konami that hasn't had a new entry in 15 years. That will apparently change in early 2010 via a downloadable title from developer Climax for the PC and other platforms.

1Up.com's preview of the game reveals this won't be a graphical remake of a previous Rocket Knight game (a la Bionic Commando Rearmed) but a full fledged sequel set 15 years, natch, after the last game. The lead character Sparkster is back in action in this 2.5 D side-scroller game, complete with his rocket pack and his sword to defeat his many different foes.
