Today is the totally made up "Cyber Monday" holiday were supposedly folks at work do a ton of shopping online after the normal Thanksgiving weekend. The PC game download site GamersGate has wasted no time in launching their Cyber Monday 2009 price cuts this morning.

Among the games on sale for today online at the site are recently released games like Tropico 3 for $29.95, Section 8 for $24.95, Hearts of Iron 3 for $11.98 and Risen for $29.95. There are also a ton of Electronic Arts-published games on sale (way to many to be listed here) for 20 percent off their normal prices on GamersGate.

Valve's zombie co-op shooter sequel Let 4 Dead 2 is on top of the Steam top 10 best selling PC games for a second straight week. It's likely that the game will stay atop the Steam list for quite a while as Valve has already said pre-orders for the game have already surpassed those of the original.

Codemasters' military shooter Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising debuts at the number two spot this week with Gearbox Software's FPS-RPG hyrbid game Borderlands jumping in at number three and Piranha Bytes' fantasy RPG Risen rising to the number four position. The full top 10 list, based as always on total revenue for the week, is as follows:

Direct2Drive's latest list of its top 10 best selling PC games downloaded for the week that ended October 3 shows that the Piranha Bytes-developed fantasy RPG Risen is at the number one spot. It's an . . .interesting choice since the game has gotten decidedly mixed reviews from critics so far. NCsoft's MMO Aion has fallen back down the list to the number three slot (Standard Edition) and number five (Collector's Edition). The post-apocalypse MMO Fallen Earth seems to have staying power; it's at number two for the week.

Keep in mind that many of the games on this Direct2Drive list were boosted by its $5 sales promotion:

The original demo for Risen wasn't packed correctly, resulting in an installation error on some computers. The latest version is now available for download. Users that downloaded the original demo will have to download the new one its place.

These teaser trailer for the upcoming role-playing game, Risen, gives viewers a small taste of what to expect from the game's story. The regular teaser trailer is shown above and one that includes a much larger explosion can be seen after the jump. Risen is scheduled to release on October 2nd.

After a very busy past few weeks for new PC game releases, things calm down a bit this week with just one major retail game, a downloadable title and a free major update to a popular shooter:

Risen: Developer Piranha Bytes, best known as the creators and developers of the first three games in the Gothic series, launch a new fantasy RPG franchise with this new title from developer Deep Silver. The game takes place on an volcanic island teaming with creatures in an open world environment. Risen has the dubious distinction of being part of a select group of games this year to be banned for sale in Australia.

This video sits down with the Piranha Bytes team, developers of the upcoming role-playing game Risen, and recounts the game's conception and history. Before starting on Risen, the studio worked on the Gothic series, and the team felt it was time to bring role playing to the next level. The developers all speak in German, but there are English subtitles. Risen is expected to release this fall.
