Uwe Boll's game Tunnel Rats released on Steam

Uwe Boll. Even his name can cause the skin to crawl among film and game fans. As a director, he's responsible for some of the worst game-to-movie adaptations of all time (and that's saying something). However, Boll decided to do something a little different for Tunnel Rats. He not only directed the movie (about US soldiers in the Vietnam War) but supervised the making of the game version.

The movie Tunnel Rats hasn't been released stateside yet but this week the Steam service has the game version available for download for $19.99. The first person shooter from developer Replay Studios (creators of the recent WWII stealth action game Velvet Assassin) has you as a US soldier working with a squad to go through tunnels made by the Vietcong. Look for traps, snakes and a crazy German trying to tell you to stand on your mark (ok, we made that last one up but that would actually be pretty cool.

Velvet Assassin goes gold; new screenshots released

Get ready for some World War II spy action really soon. Publisher Southpeak Games has announced that Velvet Assassin has now gone gold and will ship to stores as planned next week (April 30 to be exact) for both the PC and Xbox 360 consoles.

Originally the game was being developed by Replay Studios to be published by Gamecock but came under the Southpeak Games umbrella when that company bought Gamecock's assets last fall. Players will be able to control British spy Violette Summer (based on the real WWII secret agent Violette Szabo) as she sneaks around those nasty Nazis and tries to bring their plans down. Southpeak sent over new screenshots from the game (six in all) that we have added to our gallery.

Peter Chung to create Velvet Assassin comic for Gamestop exclusive

Southpeak Games looks like it will be heavily promoting the upcoming WWII stealth action game Velvet Assassin. Today the publisher announced that folks who purchase the Replay Studios-developed title at Gamestop will get access to a digital comic book created by Peter Chung.

Chung is best known for creating Aeon Flux, which was adapted into an MTV animated series and later a really crappy movie starring Charlize Theron. The Velvet Assassin comic will tell a story of the lead character, Violette Summer, and her early years as a spy working against the Nazis. The game itself is scheduled to be released this spring.

The "real" Velvet Assassin to make appearance at NY Comic Con

It's been a little while since any updates have come for Velvet Assassin. The WWII stealth action game from developer Replay Studios was originally due out last fall from publisher Gamecock. They got bought out last fall by Southpeak Games and added Velvet Assassin to their list of upcoming games for release this spring.

Today Southpeak announced their official plans for this weekend's New York Comic Con, announcing that a playable version of Velvet Assassin will be among the games shown at the exhibit floor. In addition the "real" Velvet Assassin model. Melinda Cohen, will make an apperance at the show. Cohen, who also appeared at last August's Penny Arcade Expo, did the voice work and motion capture for the game's lead character Violette Summer. In the meantime Southpeak sent over four new screenshots of the game itself to look over

Southpeak Games will also be showing off other upcoming games from their line-up, including the action-fighting game X-Blades and the sci-fi shooter Section 8.

New Velvet Assassin screenshots are deadly

The status of Velvet Assassin's publisher is a little up in the air thanks to the purchase of the game's former publisher, Gamecock, by Southpeak Games earlier this month. That isn't stopping the marketing of the upcoming stealth action game. Today we got some new screenshots that show off the titles heroine doing what she does best.

And you know what she does best, of course: KILLIN' NAZIS! Yep, this new trio of shots show off some of the game's impressive lighting effects and terrific art design but we know what we want in this title. HOT CHICKS KILLIN' NAZIS!. We don't think Velvet Assassin can be release soon enough.

Uwe Boll's own video game gets first trailer

We mentioned Thursday that super duper film director Uwe Boll will have his latest film, the adaptation of Crytek's FPS Far Cry, debut in German theaters on October 2. However, he has a ton of upcoming projects in the works, including one that's been known for some time now. 1968 Tunnel Rats is being developed as both a movie and as a game at the same time and Gametrailers has the first video footage of the game portion of this project (Boll is reportedly heavily involved in the game's development.

Both the game and the upcoming movie are Vietnam War themed projects as US Army troops attempt to get the enemy out of their man-made tunnel bases. The game was developed by Replay Studios (the same folks behind 2009's Velvet Assassin) but Replay doesn't seem to want to be associated with this game; their recently relaunched web site has no mention at all of 1968 Tunnel Rats. The trailer states the game is coming out this fall but we suspect that's for Europe; there's no word on a US release for either the game or movie.

No Velvet Assassin in 2008

It looks like one of the games we were hoping to play this fall won't be making the party after all. Velvet Assassin, the upcoming WWII stealth action game, was scheduled for release this December but now Eurogamer is reporting that the title has been pushed back to January 2009.

The game's ship date has also shifted to a mid-January date on online game retailers so we are going to assume this is not a glitch in the system. The title, from developer Replay Studios and publisher Gamecock, has gotten some new media attention lately. You can check out a recent preview of the game right here at Big Download.

Velvet Assassin PAX booth babe is actually the real thing

Eidos is famous for hiring sexy English models to portray Lara Croft and then send them over to various game conventions and promotional events. They have been doing this for over 10 years now and have just hired their newest model, 23 year old Alison Carroll. However these models are strictly for eye candy; they have never actually participated in any of the Tomb Raider game development. They have never been the voice of Lara Croft nor handled any of the motion capture for the character.

That is not the case for actress-model Melinda Cohen, who showed up at Penny Arcade Expo last weekend to promote the upcoming Replay Studios-Gamecock stealth action game Velvet Assassin. Cohen was there as a booth model but she is also handling the voice for the character of Violet Summer (in both English and German versions) in the game itself. She's also doing motion capture work for the character in the game. all of which puts her several steps ahead of any Lara Croft model. Velvet Assassin is currently scheduled for release late in 2008.

Velvet Assassin trailer peeks at war from the shadows

This grim trailer for Velvet Assassin provides information about the background story and some insight into the main character. Velvet Assassin takes place during World War II and players will take the role of a British female spy. Looks like there will be a lot of sneaking around to do and stealthy kills.

New Velvet Assassin screenshots; update on ARG progress

Replay Studios and Gamecock just released some new screenshots for their upcoming WWII stealth action game Velvet Assassin and they look, well, kind of weird. While we are still looking forward to the game's release this fall the action on the game's related ARG contest also continues.

In case you are unaware, the development team has placed "Nazi Gold" in locations around the world and left clues to their locations on the www.violettesdream.com web site. Several weeks ago, one person found one of these gold locations in Fredericksburg, Texas. Today it was announced that a second stash of gold was found in Victoria Station in London. The man who found the stash, Russell Kent, used clues found in a newspaper, finding a letter in a London bar and other locations to find the stash. There's no word on how much gold is still left to be found. Meanwhile, Velvet Assassin itself is due for release this fall.
