Dawn of War II Retribution to get Dark Angels DLC pack April 6

Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II Retribution will be getting its first paid downloadable mini-expansion on April 6. The recent sci-fi RTS game from developer Relic Entertainment will provide players on that day with the Dark Angels DLC pack for $7.50.

The Dark Angels pack will add eight new models to the Space Marines side along with new color set-ups for the rest. For example, the Force Commander will be in the DLC pack by a Dark Angels Company Master. That's him above with the feathery wing head gear. All of the Space Marine vehicles will be getting some new custom emblems and designs.

April 6 will also see the release of a free DLC pack for the game that will add 12 new Steam Achievements that also correspond to 12 new wargear parts for the game's Last Stand mode.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine due out in August

The release date for developer Relic's next major game, Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine, has been narrowed down a bit. The third person action game from publisher THQ was previously referred to as coming out sometime this summer but today the company said the title is now due out sometime in August.

As we reported on earlier this week, players will not only have to fight off an invasion of Orks on an alien planet in the game but they will also have to deal with another threat; the dreaded Chaos Space Marines in various and very deadly forms such as the Renegade Guard in the above screenshot.

Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine to feature Chaos Space Marines

There hasn't been a whole lot of info about Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine beyond the basics; the third person action game has you as a Space Marine basically shooting and cutting his way through an Ork planetary invasion. Now Destructoid is reporting that the game will also feature Chaos Space Marines as foes to fight in the Relic Entertainment-developed game.

The article also has a quick chat game director Raphael van Lierop who stated that there will be a number of different Chaos Space Marines to kill. Those enemies will be "equipped with a variety of heavy weapon" and "some can pull out melee weapons and engage you in close quarters." Hopefully we will learn more about Space Marine before publisher THQ sends it out the door sometime this summer.

Dawn of War II Retribution getting free content update April 6

Developer Relic is wasting no time in offering fans some new content for the recently released RTS game Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II Retribution. Today the game's publisher THQ sent over word that a content update for the game will be released on April 6.

The update will add 12 new Steam achievements to the game's Last Stand co-op survival mode. Each new achievement will also unlock a new piece of wargear for players to use in the game. There's no word yet on what the 12 achievements will be like nor what the wargear will consist of

Company of Heroes Online disables game client downloads ahead of shut down

company of heroes online
If you haven't yet played Company of Heroes Online but thought that you still had some time to download and play the game before it shuts down for good, you are officially too late. The game's official web site has announced that client downloads for Relic's free-to-play WWII RTS game have officially been disabled as of today.

Players who have already downloaded the client and have established an account to play the game still have about two more weeks to fight on the virtual battlefields of Europe. As we reported a few weeks ago Company of Heroes Online will shut down its servers for good on March 31.

Review: Dawn of War 2 - Retribution

When it comes to fighting an eternal intergalactic war, few games compare to the Dawn of War series. Dawn of War II - Retribution ups the stakes by including a number of gameplay changes and improvements compared to the previous games, with the most prominent feature being the inclusion of six playable races for the campaign mode. Although the events from Chaos Rising shape what's happening in the sector, the Space Marine campaign isn't a direct sequel and the amount of corruption or purity players chose to stick with have no bearing on Retribution. All the campaigns use the same series of maps with special events and dialogue changed to suit the player's faction. They also pretty much follow the plot of defeating a Chaos plot to gain power while trying to stop the Imperium from purging all life from the sector, but are enough differences in characters and motivation to make each story feel unique. Especially when playing a faction like Chaos and battling the Space Marine heroes featured in previous games.

Company of Heroes Online adds even more maps

company of heroes online
Company of Heroes Online continues to give its players more content even as the WWII online RTS game is scheduled to shut down operations in little over a month. This week the team at developer Relic Entertainment have added two additional maps to the game.

One of the maps is titled Carpiquet, a small two player maps that is set on an airfield. The other new map is a big eight player level titled Hedgerow Siege which is actually an update from a previously released map designed for six players. As we reported earlier this month, publisher THQ will shut down the servers on Company of Heroes Online on March 31.

Company of Heroes Online adds two new maps

Company of Heroes Online may be shutting down for good on March 31 but the development team at Relic Entertainment are still adding new content to the WWII persistant RTS game before publisher THQ pulls the plug. Late on Friday the team added two new maps to the game.

One of the new maps is titled Road to Montherme, a four player map that was created by a long time Company of Heroes mod maker Mannerheim. The other map is an eight-player battlefield named Hill 331 which is actually a modified and expanded version of a six-player map from Relic. In related news a new beta patch for the retail version of Company of Heroes has been released via Steam for beta participants. You can check out the patch notes right here.

Relic RTS game announcement "should come in August", says THQ exec

Relic Entertainment's next big RTS game announcement "should come in August". That's the word from THQ exec Danny Bilson in a recent message on his Twitter site. Relic has been THQ's main RTS game developer and has created the Company of Heroes WWII themed series along with adapting the Warhammer 40,000 franchise with the Dawn of War series.

While Relic's next RTS game, the stand alone expansion pack Warhammer 40000 Dawn of War II Retribution, is currently in beta and will be released on March 1, THQ recently announced that it will shut down Company of Heroes Online, its persistant online RTS, on March 31. Some have speculated that Relic might be working on a third game in its acclaimed space-based Homeworld series.

Company Of Heroes Online and WWE Online cancellation to cost THQ nearly $10 million

THQ's decision to shut down its persistant online RTS game Company of Heroes Online will cause the publisher to take a $9.9 million charge in its latest financial numbers. As we reported on Tuesday the game from developer Relic Entertainment will shut down on March 31 in both North America and Asia. Another free-to-play game, WWE Online, will also be shut down; it was only available in Asian markets.

THQ's press release was vague on the reasons behind the shutdown of its free-to-play games, saying only that the company had "reevaluated its strategy of adapting certain Western content for free-to-play online games in Asian markets." Overall THQ's revenues for the quarter that ended on December 31, 2010 came in at $314.6 million compared to $356.7 million for the same period a year ago. The company said it had a net loss for the quarter of $14.9 million compared to a net profit of $542,000 for the same period a year ago.
