City of Heroes brings in PvP and Red Vs Blue creators for new missions

City of Heroes' recent release of its Mission Architect tool for making new content has certainly put in new life to the super hero MMO. Now developer Paragon Studios and publisher NCsoft have posted up word that the Mission Architect will be put to use by well known game-related creators for new missions

The Rooster Teeth crew, best known for their Halo-based Red Vs Blue machinima series of short films, will use the Mission Architect tool for new City of Heroes missions starring Captain Dynamic. Rooster Teeth first used the character in a series of short live action films made to promote the initial release of the Mission Architech tool. Also Scott Kurtz, the creator of the PvP web comic strip, will bring one of his own strip creations, LolBat, to City of Heroes via the Mission Architech.

Is it better to play on the red team in shooter matches?

You would think it wouldn't matter what color your team is in multiplayer shooter matches. Red team . . . Blue team . . . it's all a matter of the players and how they play, right? Well, maybe not. According to a new Associated Press story (via Google) a new study suggests playing on the red team gives players an edge.

The study, conducted at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, checked out the results of 1,347 matches in Epic Games' Unreal Tournament 2004. The result of their study showed that 55 percent of the time the red team in the matches won against the blue team. One of the scientists claims that the color red " . . . may act as a psychological distractor for men, possibly because men flush and turn red when they're angry." The article also quotes Epic Games's VP Mark Rein who states that while they find the results of the study interesting the fact is that playing red teams against blue teams " . . has been ingrained in the Unreal Tournament series for years." In other words, don't expect to see pink vs. gray matches anytime soon.

New Red vs Blue video mini-series begins

The guys at Rooster Teeth have been making Red vs Blue machinima games based on Bungie's Halo series for a while now (with some side projects featuring F.E.A.R. and The Sims 2) but the Austin-based team has recently put the series on the back burner . . .until now, that is.

The official Rooster Teeth web site has just launched a new Red vs Blue series with the sub title Reconstruction. And this time, it's serious. That is, the tone of this new season of machinima video episodes seems to ditch the comedic themes of all the previous Red vs Blue titles for a hard sci-fi drama set in the Halo universe. Will this switch make the Rooster Teeth team gain new fans or make their older fans upset? You be the judge.
