Get in quick for some downloadable PC game sales

With all of the BlizzCon stuff we did last week we forgot to mention a few notable downloadable PC game sales that are still going on as we write this post. One is over at Steam where the downloadable puzzle game Droplitz is on sale until August 28 for just $1.99. Yep that's an 80 percent price cut from its normal Steam price. The game also has added support for some new Steam leaderboards. Also Steam is giving folks a chance to buy a bundle of Southpeak's Raven Squad and Section 8 for 25 percent off before they are released on the service.

Over at GoG.com there is still time to download Beyond Good and Evil and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time at a discount. You can get either one of the Ubisoft games for 30 percent off their normal GoG.com price or get both in a bundle for 50 percent off. The sale ends tonight at 11:59 pm ET. However GoG.com just launched another sale for the excellent FPS Shogo: Mobile Armor Division. You can download and purchase that game for 10 percent off its normal price until August 30. Finally Direct2Drive has put Defense Grid: The Awakening on sale until Sunday for $9.95.

This week in PC Games: August 17-23

Two classic PC game franchises get new entries along with an all new RTS-FPS hybrid game:

Wolfenstein: id Software collaborates with their long time partner Raven Software for perhaps the final time in this latest entry in the game series that first launched the first person shooter genre. B.J. Blazkowicz is once again making things hard for the Nazi as they search for supernatural weapons to win World War II. The game's multiplayer features were handled by Endrant Studios.

Raven Squad trailer blows stuff up

The summer wouldn't be complete without something really over the top. This Raven Squad trailer enthusiastically fills that need. It even admits to throwing in unnecessary explosions, using bad voice acting and terrible one liners. However, it also reveals "kickass gameplay" that combines real-time strategy with first-person shooters. The game features two player cooperative gameplay and is expected to release on August 11th.

"Raven Squad is a tactical action game set in the Amazonian jungles that blends a first person shooter (FPS) experience with the command and overview advantages of a tactical real-time strategy (RTS) with dominantly story driven objectives. The player can solve each tactical situation using his own combination of the two genres either by himself or cooperatively with a friend."

Raven Squad announced

We have seen games in the past that have tried to mix-and-match genres and one of the ways is to merge real-time strategy with first person shooter. Titles like the Savage series and Command and Conquer: Renegade have done these kinds of merges with different degrees of success. Now yet another game plans to do the same thing as Southpeak Games as announced the modern day themed game Raven Squad.

Developed by Atomic Motion, the game is set in the Amazonian jungle with two mercenary groups fighting it out after crash landing in the jungle. The game features eight different squad members to choose from and players can switch between RTS and FPS gameplay. The title is due out for the PC later this fall.
