Mac Monday: Archibald's Adventures/Blockland

Another two-fer, O Constant Readers. And wouldn't you know it -- two more games who couldn't be more different from each other. This time around, we're looking at Archibald's Adventures, by Rake In Grass, and Blockland, by Blockland LLC. Are you as jazzed as I am? Boy howdy, you sure are! See you after the jump.

Mac Monday: Be A King

Be A King, by publisher Rake In Grass, is an enjoyably casual take on the kingdom building genre of game. There is a relaxed quality to this title that almost had me wondering when the other shoe would drop. But no, even in a genre known for its methodical, deliberate gameplay, Be A King makes you feel that there's no need to worry; it'll all work out in the end.

This game scratches that completist itch, with its 3-level buildings, short construction times, and mini-quests. And though the demo only gives a few of the 25 levels, it does slowly build upon each mission, to hopefully offer more complexity in the latter levels. So how does Be A King play? I'm so glad you asked!

MacMonday: Larva Mortus

Larva Mortus is billed as a "retro horror action game" by developers Rake In Grass, and it more than lives up to its name. Calling it a cross between Smash TV and the X-Files would be too facile a comparison, but it's a decent starting point. Combining an intuitive interface with addictive gameplay, Larva Mortus will keep you saying "Just one more level" until the undead cows come home. Let's take a look after the jump!

Larva Mortus blows apart the occult

A mix of Smash TV and Diablo, Rake In Grass' Larva Mortus is a top-down shooter-RPG which melds its two elements nicely. Running around and killing occult-ish creatures through randomly-generated rooms is, as such mindless killing should be, an absolute blast. However, the rooms feel a little bland, and some deeper customization elements would've been nicely. All in all, a fairly decent indie title to blow some time in. You can check out the demo, and if you like it, the game is $20 on the official site.
