Railworks 2 released with 50 percent off sale; Railworks owners upgrade for free

If you enjoy the idea of playing a game where you build and control a massive rail transporation system then you likely already know about Railworks, the train simulation title from developer Railsimulator.com. The developer has been keeping its customers busy since Railworks was first released back in June 2008 with a ton of paid downloadable content for the game.

Today Railsimulator.com has released Railworks 2, a full fledged sequel to the game that adds a number of new features including a new career system, a "Cab Control" system for beginner drivers and new Steam leaderboards and achevements. The game is now available to download via Steam and owners of the first Railworks can get Railworks 2 for free. First time buys also get a good deal. From now until October 25 you can purchase the game for $19.99, a 50 percent discount.

New Railworks DLC proceeds going to charity

The team at UK-based RailSimulator.com have been releasing regular downloadable content packages for their railroad simulator game RailWorks for some time. However their latest release for the game is a little different. The Phorum Peninsula DLC will see its proceeds go to a UK charity.

The DLC itself, now available on Steam, costs $13.49 and contains a number of new rail cars as well as 10 new scenarios. The proceeds from the sale of the DLC will go to the Railway Children charity. The organization is dedicated to helping children who find themselves living on the street with shelter, food, clothing and more.

Steam and Direct2Drive have some early week download sales

Black Friday is just a few days away but PC game downloads Steam and Direct2Drive aren't waiting; they have a few sales they have launched on Monday that should keep away the price bugs from biting:

More weekend game sales revealed [Update]

Amazon.com usually doesn't have sales on PC games but for today only that changes as EA's latest people sim game The Sims 3 has been marked down to just $29.98 on the retail web site. Also on sale for this weekend only on Steam is Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood. Techland's Wild West shooter is available for 30 percent off its normal Steam price.
In related news the latest paid DLC for Railworks, the Stanier Jubilee Steam Locomotive, is now available to download from Steam for $19.99.

Finally the Impulse web site has several games on sale this weekend. It includes pre-orders for Cities XL for just $39.99 and Trine for just $22.49.

Update: Steam has put three games from Rebellion (Judge Dredd, Evil Genius and Sniper Elite) for 50 percent off from now until Tuesday.

Weekend PC game sales hit the net

Not one but four Railworks DLC additons released via Steam


If you really, really love your railroad PC game simulations, you pretty much have to be happy with the post-release support for Railworks, the recently released (via Steam) game from UK based Railsimulator.com. Today the developer went pretty much nuts by offering Railworks gamers not one but FOUR new commercial downloadable expansions to purchase and download via Steam.

The most expensive is the Isle of Wight expansion which costs $29.99 and adds 14 scenarios, two locomotives and more to the game. The Class 158 Diesel Multiple Unit expansion costs $19.99 and adds one new locomotive and six scenarios. Two expansions, the Class 66 Diesel Locomotive and the Class 08 Diesel Shunter, cost $14.99 each.

Railworks released via Steam


As promised a couple of months ago, the UK-based developer Railsimulator.com has released their new rail simulation game Railworks (formerly known as Rail Simulator 2) via Steam for $49.99. However folks who registered at the the Railsimulator.com web site before June 1 can find out a way to get the Steam version for just $30 for a limited time.

The Steam version contains some exclusive content that will not be found in any other version of the game including four special rail models. The full version contains 13 locomotives which can be used in eight routes in the US, UK and other parts of Europe. There are 50 scenarios in the full game and the title's editor can be use to create new routes.
