Dark Horizon goes gold

Paradox Interactive has announced that Dark Horizon, their upcoming space combat game from developer Quazar Studios, has gone gold. The publisher revealed that the game will ship out in the US on schedule on September 23 with a European launch on September 26. The game will be released both in retail stores and via the Gamersgate download service.

As we have reported previously, Dark Horizon is set in the same universe as Quazar's last title Tarr Chronicles, which was released by CDV in 2007. Dark Horizon will have 22 single player space combat missions with some RPG elements in a storyline where apparently an alien race with a massive fleet is about to destroy the universe. There's no word yet if a demo for the game will be released.

First screenshots and story hints from Dark Horizon emerge

We've told you about the upcoming space combat game Dark Horizon before but now we can actually show you a little about what the game looks like. The publisher, Paradox Interactive, has sent out the first screenshots of the game developed by Quazar Studio and due for release sometime in the third quarter of 2008.

As we previously reported, Dark Horizon is set in the same universe as Quazar Studio's previous space combat game Tarr Chronicles but is an all new title. Paradox also sent over the first story details of the game which we will reproduce here in full:

At the boundary of the known galaxy, a deep-space exploration probe begins its transmission to a star-base, light years away. Before the signal is prematurely cut-off, the base's central computer receives numerous images of a disturbing nature. On examination, they provide a tantalising glimpse of sinister alien spacecraft flying amid monstrous sized space stations.Could these belong to the race responsible, for the disaster afflicting the universe? Take your first step into a universe in terminal decline, towards the Dark Horizon.

More info on Dark Horizon revealed

On Thursday we reported that publisher Paradox Interactive had first revealed their plans to publish Dark Horizon, an upcoming PC space combat game. However the press release from the company was short on details, including who the developer of the game is. Big Download contacted Paradox's PR contact for more info and they told us that the developer is Quazar Studio who in 2007 released another space combat game titled Tarr Chronicles (the US version was published by CDV).

So is Dark Horizon simply a re-packaged version of Tarr Chronicles or an all new game? According to our Paradox PR contact, "Dark Horizon is from the same studio and a new title but in the "same" universe as Tarr Chronicles was." We hope to get more info on the game in the weeks ahead of the game's planned release sometime in the third quarter of 2008.
