Quake Wars Online revealed for Korean market

Id Software's free-to-play first person shooter Quake Live has been live for the better part of a year now but now it looks like another Quake-based game is going the free-to-play route, at least in Korea. Developer Splash Damage has just revealed Quake Wars Online, a game based on the developer's 2007 released Enemy Territory: Quake Wars multiplayer shooter.

Developed by Korean-based Dragonfly, Splash Damage says Quake War Online is currently moving into a public beta testing phase limited to 100,000 players. If you can read Korean you can find out more at the game's official web site. At the moments there's no word if Quake Wars Online will be made available to US players. You can check out a teaser trailer for the game after the jump.

Feature: Happy 13th Birthday Quake

13 years ago today, id Software released Quake, the first game in a first person shooter franchise that continues to be one of the most well known in the PC gaming industry. With five full games based on the series, an number of official and unofficial expansion packs, tons of mods and total conversions and a currently running web browser online-only game, the Quake series continues to be popular even with major shift in emphasis.

On the day that the Quake series become a teenager, Big Download decided to look back at the entire game series. From it's start as a near-Doom clone to the Stroggos storyline to its multiplayer emphasis to its current incarnation as a free-to-play shooter, the series has had many different versions in a relatively short time span.

Enemy Territory patched to version 1.5

As we reported earlier, the Enemy Territory patch 1.5 is coming, even though it required personal funding in order to be completed. Well, it's no longer coming, because it's here! Featuring a slew of changes such as improved UI, more customization, better rank and statistics functionality, and many, many bugfixes, it's an excellent patch for an excellent game. While one may complain that the patch doesn't have new weapons, classes, maps, vehicles, or other major content additions, it's always the littlest Quality of Life changes that seem to have the biggest impact. You can get the full patch and the incremental patch through our downloads section or on the official community website.

Enemy Territory patch changes revealed

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is one of those multiplayer shooters that you really have to play to understand the charm. At first glance, it's a lot like Battlefield 2 (or 2142), but when you start to reach the delicious crunchy center, you realize that it's really a game that can be compared to no other. It's also quite good.

The lovely developers at Splash Damage have revealed their planned improvements for the 1.5 patch, which is currently being funded out of their own pocket. They've added some much needed UI and customization improvements, as well as cleaning up the AI functionality and removing several exploits and bugs. Check out the full changelog at the community site.
