Portal 2 trailer manages long falls

This trailer, funnily enough, tells us something we already know. Granted, it does it in a new and funny way, which is fairly standard with the Portal 2 trailers at this point. In this case, it shows how Chell can survive those massive falls in Portal (and presumably Portal 2): the springy-looking boots she wears. It was explained in a snippet in the first game, but hey, if it means we get more slick visuals and dose of humor, we're fine with being told again.

Portal 2 trailer ships out the turrets

It's time for more of that humorous writing we have come to expect from the developers at Valve. In this trailer, said writing revolves around the various commercial aspects of turrets. For example, did you know that each turret is literally filled with bullets? Or that instead of firing a bullet, it actually fires the whole cartridge? It's some clever writing to be sure, and a good example of the goofiness to expect from the Portal 2 story. It gave us a chuckle.

Portal 2 trailer builds some robotic trust

Portal 2 keeps slathering on the cinematic charm with each released trailer, and this particular trailer is no different. It depicts to characters we are already familiar with: the core and turret robots from the co-op mode for Valve's latest sequel. They engage in various traditional trust exercises with varying hilarious results. While there's nothing of any real substance here - such as game footage or developer commentary - this trailer is enjoyable just by being goofy. It's just not very informative.

Trine 2 trailer visits a living fantasy world

Trine is great, sure, but judging by the trailers, Trine 2 looks to be way better. This particular trailer shows off some of the new puzzles and elements to the indie platformer, and we're loving the aesthetic it brings to them. Our personal favorite is watering a plant to cause a giant snail to move out of the way. It's all very charming, soft, and storybook-like, which is all we can really ask for. This trailer is also almost entirely in-game footage as well!

Portal 2 trailer shows the utility of panels

Panels can be used for many things. In most cases, they just cover open spaces, like cabinets. n Aperture Science, however, they make up entire rooms! This cinematic trailer for Portal 2 shows off panels in action, with hilarious results on the co-operative robots. These panels are just as likely to move out from under you as they are to crush you against a wall. It doesn't show any in-game footage, but it does apply that charming cinematic flair that has colored all the previous Portal 2 trailers.

Portal 2 trailer gives the gift of portals for valentine's day

Valve knows that Valentine's Day can be a little dangerous. After all, people are allergic to chocolate, flowers have swarms of bees, and almost everybody dies to giant falling diamonds. This cute trailer depicts the recommended way that Aperture Science couples interact for Valentine's Day: by engaging in challenges that will most likely result in their deaths. It's an incredibly adorable trailer for Portal 2, and is animated quite well to boot.

Portal 2 trailer teaches the values of cooperation

Portal 2 is still being salivated over by virtually ever PC gamer out there, so to whet their appetites, Valve has released another cinematic trailer. Much like all their cinematics, Valve manages to imbue the characters within with a life of their own, making personalities come alive. In this case, the characters are obvious: the android created from a turret is friendly and helpful, while the personality core android is defiant and irritable. In a way, they reflect their origins, as the turrets do profess to love their targets and GLaDOS is not exactly known for being of sweet temperament.

Freeware Friday: Octodad

You're living at home with your loving wife and two children: a little boy and a little girl. The wife does groceries and cooks you dinner, the little boy loves sports and being mischevious, and the little girl loves her plushies and bedtime stories. It's like a sitcom from the 50s. However, you are being stalked by a Japanese chef who wishes to turn you into sushi. In most cases, this would be the plot to a horror flick (Sushi Slashers 2: Return of Sushi Chef). Here it is different, though: you are actually an octopus pretending to be a human. Thus the plot of Octodad is revealed, and both the story and gameplay lead to it being an incredibly hilarious, albeit short, freeware game.

Review: The Ball

Tripwire is rapidly becoming known as a publisher of former mods, and their latest release falls straight in line with that perception. The Ball, a former Unreal Tournament 3 mod that was a finalist in Make Something Unreal, has finally be released on Steam as a stand-alone project. While it's a fun, visually stunning, and relaxing game, it suffers from a number of problems that keep it from rising above its mod roots. Make no mistake: this is a fantastic indie game that many can enjoy. There's just a number of issues that keep it from achieving the heights that it aspires to.
