Project Aftermath free add-on released; holiday price cut

The folks at UK based Games Faction are giving some holiday cheer to fans of their downloadable sci-fi RTS game Project Aftermath. The developers have just released a free add-on for the full game and also reduced the price of the full version to just $9.99 for the holidays.

The add-on puts in a new "tactical deployment system" for the game that adds new items such as turrets, beacons and at the third tier a new six man Containment Team. The add-on also brings 20 new challenge levels to the full game, broken down into normal and extreme challenges. The full game can be purchased through several outlets including the just added Gamersgate service.

Interview: Games Faction talks about Project Aftermath

Small, independent game companies seem to sprout up all the time but few had done so with as much attention as Games Faction. The UK based studio is made up of just three people (including former Deep Red Games team members Lee Hickey and Malcolm Reed) but they managed to get their first game, the tactical sci-fi RTS title Project Aftermath, on Valve's Steam download service.

So what made this small staff want to make a game? Big Download got Games Faction co-founder Hickey to talk to us about his company, Project Aftermath, his thoughts on the PC game industry, the DRM debate, and their plans for the future.
