Motion-sensing camera coming to PCs ... sort of
The Xbox 360's recent release of its Kinect motion-sensing camera controller has certainly generated a ton of third party PC-based hacks and programs for the device. Now one of the companies behind the technology of Kinect, PrimeSense, has announced plans to team up with PC maker ASUS for a similar camera controller that's designed to hook up to your PC ... kind of.In fact it's a bit more complicated, as our sister site Engadget reports. The Wavi Xtion combines the 3D motion-sensing camera from PrimeSense with two wireless boxes from ASUS. The idea is to connect one of the boxes to your PC which serves as a wireless connection to the other box which connects to the camera controller. You are then supposed to connect the camera to your TV where you can play games and other apps made for the device. The Wavi Xtion is supposed to be released sometime in the second quarter of 2011 (no price point has been announced) but in February an SDK will be released to developers ahead of time so they can get started making applications for the device. Apps and games made with the SDK could be sold only via the device's own online store when it's made available.
