If you ever wanted to do something awful to film director Uwe Boll, you may get your chance. According to Eurogamer, Boll actually paid for the privilage to have his likeness put into Postal 3, the upcoming next game in Running With Scissors' action game series.

Boll, of course, directed the Postal movie that was released in 2008 and according to Running With Scissors head Vince Desi, "Uwe will be presented as himself and of course you can have fun with him, it's Postal!" Postal 3, which is being co-developed by Akella and uses the Source engine, does not yet have a release date.

The Uwe Boll directed adaptation of Running With Scissors'sPostal game franchise may have been kept from being released in most movie theaters last May but on August 26 everyone will be able to see the movie in either DVD or Blu-Ray format. The DVD Active web site has posted up the box cover for the release which reveals extras like commentaries, deleted scenes and more.

The release will also come with the full version of the Postal 2 game, the Unreal Engine 2 powered open world shooter that Running With Scissors released several years ago. Running With Scissors and Russian based Akella are currently working on Postal III which should be released in 2009.

We can say with the utmost certainty that hell has frozen over. Postal, the movie adaptation of the game of the same name, has won some awards. Actual awards, even. Instead of receiving or being nominated for a Golden Raspberry, Postal has been awarded Best of Festival at the Hoboken Film Festival. Furthermore, Uwe Boll, our favorite mutilator of gaming intellectual properties, has received the Best Director award. One could argue that this was because of Uwe Boll being a festival sponsor, but shhhh. Don't spoil the moment.

When asked about the award, producer Vince Desi had this to say:

When the fans speak, we win. We know this from our experience in the game industry and now the film business just confirms it. The continued success of the POSTAL franchise in all its forms is proof that democracy works; you cannot stop what's in the hearts of the people. Freedom will always triumph over tyranny.

Because everyone knows that the panning of Uwe Boll's films and Vince Desi's games by critics is tyranny.

It's the Memorial Day weekend here in the US and while many of you may be going to go see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, a brave few will be heading to a few movie theaters to see Postal, the latest game-to-movie adaptation from infamous director Uwe Boll. The Postal PC game series, which has generated its own controversies over the years, has continued to be successful for its developer Running With Scissors. Their mix of violence and dark humor have gotten politicians and others to attack the games (mostly without actually playing them of course). Still, there are a number of gamers and reviewers who appreciate what Running With Scissors are attempting to do with the Postal titles; namely the fact that they try to satire all aspects of pop culture and politics.

With the movie now in theaters, Big Download decided to contact Running with Scissors head Vince Desi to get his thoughts on the film, what the experience was like working with Uwe Boll and some hints on the next game in the series, Postal III..

First, there's no doubt that the journey to have Postal transformed into a movie has been an interesting one. Can you give us a little history on how you guys pitched a movie version and how Uwe Boll game on board?

After Postal 2 was released I was contacted by several folks in Hollywood, I had a few meetings but decided against it. Then about 2 years ago I got a call from someone representing Uwe, I didn't know who he was, so I flew up to Vancouver to meet him. We got along, and like they say in Hollywood the rest is history.

What possessed developer Running With Scissors to release the multiplayer freeware? Could it be the Boll-directed Postal film that is lighting up a record-setting 18 theaters? A few days ago it looked like the planned movie version of Postal was going to appear in just four theaters for its May 23 opening date. Now a new press release from Postal developers Running With Scissors seems to indicate a slightly bigger opening for the Uwe Boll-directed dark satire. According to the official Postal web site the movie will actually be in 14 theaters on May 23.

The web site indicates theaters like the famous Alamo Draft House in Austin, Texas along with locations in Denver, Santa Monica, Chicago and others will screen the movie on the opening weekend. A San Fransisco theater will screen the movie on May 30. Of course if you aren't located near one of the listed theaters don't fret; the movie is coming to DVD and Blu-Ray on August 26.

Uwe Boll's movie adaptation of Running With Scissors' Postal action game series seemed to be a marriage made in heaven. Both Boll and Running With Scissors have generated tons of controversy with their previous products and both have been slammed by most mainstream critics. However the clips we have seen of the Postal movie definitely have a dark humor appeal.

After a number of delays, the Postal movie finally got scheduled for a wide release in theaters on May 23 via the distributor Freestyle Releasing. But according to a press release from Boll's production company and sent to Kotaku, the major theater chains in the US are "boycotting Postal because of its political content." Thus a planned opening of the movie on 1500 screens has been reduced to just four theaters. Of course, another reason for theater owners not wanting Postal may be Boll's awful box office record; his last theatrical movie (In The Name Of The King: A Dungeon Siege Tale) made just under $3 million in its opening weekend last January.

Uwe Boll. You love to hate him and you certainly hate to love him. The German movie director behind such films as House of the Dead, Alone in the Dark and the upcoming Postal and Far Cry films (to name just a few) has been responsible for some of the worst reviewed movies ever made, video and PC game based or otherwise. A recent chat with Boll on the Fearnet web site, however, gave a ray of hope for those folks who want him out of the film business. He said he would consider a move to stop making movies if an online petition asking him to do that very thing reached 1 million signatures. So far, about 234,000 name are on that site.

Now Stride, the gum company, has announced a unique way to promote their product. Basically if the "Stop Uwe Boll" petition reaches that 1 million number by May 14 Stride will give each petition signer a downloadable coupon for one free pack of Stride gum. That coupon will be made available on May 23 which just happens to be the release date for Boll's Postal film adaptation. According to Stride's marketing director Gary Osifchin, ""Look, it's nothing personal against the guy. Maybe his non videogame-based films are unbelievable! But we've seen such intense passion for this cause that we couldn't help but get involved." Of course this is no guarantee that Boll will indeed stop making movies; he's free to ignore this movement. But hey, it's a cool way to promote gum, don't you think?
