Playlogic files for bankruptcy

A European-based developer and publisher is dealing with some financial hardships this week. Gamasutra reports that Playlogic has filed for the equivalent of Chapter 11 bankruptcy in its native county of the Netherlands. The report states that Playlogic has admitted to being "behind on payments to some of our vendors." It also claims that it is owed money from its distributor Koch Media to the tune of 1.7 million euros and has started legal proceedings to obtain that money.

Playlogic's last game was the platform action title Fairytale Fights. While the game was released for the Xbox 360 and PS3 last fall, the promised PC version has yet to be released.

Fairytale Fights trailer cuts loose

Fairytales don't necessarily need a happy ending, or even a moral, as this trailer for Fairytale Fights demonstrates. The game gets by just fine with plenty of bloodshed and carnage. This four player hack-'n-slash game's release was recently pushed to 2010.

Fairytale Fights not coming to the PC this year

Playlogic Games has added yet another game for PC owners to wait on. Granted it's a game that we haven't really had our radar on but it still means that you won't get to play this game this year while your console counterparts get that privalage.

The game? Fairytale Fights, the Unreal Engine 3 based action game that's being designed as a kind of goofy and violent twist on those fun children's stories. While the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions ship to stores in the US on October 27, we will have to wait until sometime in 2010 to play the PC version. Too bad. We were looking forward to try out the game's feature set that would allow us to "dynamically slice through 3D models in real-time."

Fairytale Fights recently added new characters to its roster. Now in addition to using Little Red Riding Hood or Snow White to hack through hordes of bunnies, players can select Jack from Jack and Beanstalk. However, the character that will probably be catching the most attention will be The Naked Emperor of The Emperor's New Clothes fame. How threatening can a naked monarch be? This trailer reveals all.

Fairytale Fights reveals two new characters

Revealing new characters for action RPGs seems to be the name of the game today. First League of Legends, and now Fairytale Fights. Playlogic has announced today that Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk and the naked emperor from The Emperor's New Clothes will both be playable characters in the fairytale-themed hack-'n-slash game, joining the roster alongside Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood. No information on the characters' moves or gameplay has been released, so who knows what they play like. Fairytale Fights is still scheduled for Holiday 2009. Full release after the cut.

Playlogic launches new downloadable PC game sites

With outlets like Steam, Impulse, Direct2Drive, GameTap, GamersGate already out there there is no lack of places you can download PC games. Now publisher Playlogic has decided to enter this crowded market with their own entry, GamEssence (and yes, that is how they are choosing to spell it on their site).

The site's selection of titles is pretty sparse at the moment with just 41 games to choose from. The games come from either Playlogic itself orfrom another publisher Microids. However Playlogic states in their press release that they plan to expand GamEssence to include hundreds of titles from third party publishers. It will be interesting to see if this new venture will make any headway against the already established brands.
