Battle Slots released today, a few days early

The unusual fantasy RPG game Battle Slots was supposed to be released next week on April 19. Perhaps because that date also fell on the same date as Portal 2's release, publisher Phantom EFX has decided to jump ahead a few days. The game is now available for sale via download from the company's online store.

Just a reminder: this game is being described as a true fantasy RPG but with a gameplay twist: certain elements of the game are handled by a slot machine-based system that handles elements like Attack Points, Mana, Experience and Gold. You can download a demo of Battle Slots right here at Big Download.

How do you mix a fantasy RPG with the mechanics of a coin slot machine game? If you are developer Phantom EFX you make Battle Slots. The upcoming title now has a demo to download and try out for yourself.

The demo shows off how the turn of a slot machine-like interface will give the play things like attack points, mana points, bonus experience or extra gold. You can use these elements to beef up your player character as he or she can gain new spells, weapons and more. The full version of Battle Slots is scheduled for release on April 19.

Battle Slots announced

Battle slots
If you wanted to combine a fantasy RPG with a casino slots game, you might end up with something like Battle Slots. The game was just announced today by publisher Phantom EFX who has released quite a few standard casino slots PC games along with the 2009 first person shooter Darkest of Days.

While the game is a map-based fantasy RPG with quests and monsters, the developers have replaced the die roll with a "magic" slot machine. There's no gambling in this game; the slot machine design generates things like gold, magic and attack points and more. The game's release date has not yet been announced.

Darkest of Days movie being scripted

Phantom EFX's recent game Darkest of Days didn't exactly tear up the sales charts when it was released last fall but the first person shooter's storyline of agents going back and forth in time to correct issues was at least least interesting. Now comes word that the game is in the first stages of being adapted into a feature film.

The movie version is being scripted by Douglas Cook and David Weisberg who are best known for writing the classic 1996 action flick The Rock. Well known movie producer Joe Roth is producing the movie which is currently being shopped around to film studios.
