Big Download's News Bits & Bytes - January 8-9

And so another week ends as we await the next week when the first big PC game of the year, DC Universe Online, will be released. Will this game make super hero MMO players forget all about City of Heroes or Champions Online?

God of War PC case mod is EXTREME!

We love going to QuakeCon every year. Not just for the tournaments or the John Carmack keynotes or the QuakeCon girls but the awesome custom PC case mods that folks make, display and even use to play PC games. But we have to admit none of the QuakeCon PC case mods, even the Fallout 3 one we saw a couple of years ago, compares to the one you see above.

This Kratos case mod comes from a LAN event in Brazil and, well, it's truly a work or art. We will ignore the fact that the God of War series is a Playstation exclusive. We say, "Bravo" to the creator of this case mod. QuakeCon 2010 attendees, the ball is in your court to top this. Good luck. You can check out a brief video of the case mod from other angles after the jump.

QuakeCon 2009: PC Case Mod Gallery

One of our most popular gallery features last year was of various weird and wonderful PC case mods that folks who attended QuakeCon brought to the BYOC area. This year's line-up of case mods from QuakeCon 2009 isn't quite as impressive as last year's but there are still some great and creative efforts out there by the PC case mod community.

In fact it looks like corporate folks like AMD, Antec and ASUS are creating their own case mods that aren't too bad either. In fact AMD decded to go one better and do something more than just a case mod.

QuakeCon 2008: The case of the PC case mods

Going through the BYOC area of QuakeCon, it's clear that the men and women who play LAN games all day and into the night have some elaborate set-ups that they have created to game on their PCs. However, it's one thing to put a clear side on your case and add a few lights. It's quite another to create, say, a PC case from Legos (as we see above) or in the cases you will see in our gallery feature.

There's quite the variety of cases at QuakeCon this year; large, small, bright, dark and ...well, you can see for yourself as you check out the many different homemade cases. We hope to see a few more and add to the gallery later this weekend.
