More weekend PC game sales at Direct2Drive make us happy

There are a few things that will make us happy in 2010. The day StarCraft 2 comes out, the launch of the 11th Doctor adventures and saving money on PC games. Thankfully we can be happy now as we found some additional sales on the interwebs. We hope revealing this info makes you happy too.

Direct2Drive has put 2009's be-an-evil-fantasy-person game Overlord II on sale for just $9.99 from now until Friday. Also the indie game Aztaka is on sale for just $7.50. You can also take $5 off Divinity 2 for this weekend only if you use the code 5OFFDIVINITY2 at checkout.

Review: Overlord II

In Overlord II, players take up the steel fisted role of a brand new evil master with legions of little imps at the command. This time around, the latest Overlord starts young and studies the profession of evil into adulthood when he takes the throne of his own dark tower in the netherworld. So, unlike the first game, where the player had to option to go good, the only choice players have now is the kind of evil they want to spread around. Players can choose to either enslave everyone they encounter or leave nothing but dead bodies in their wake. However, the game has less to do with the Overlord himself than commanding multicolored minions. Although they've also gone through a few significant changes since the first game, Overlord II ends up having many of the same shortcomings that plagued the first game.

"In the Overlord II demo, players step into the big spiky boots of a new Overlord whose sights are firmly set on becoming the king of chaos, the bringer of evil and the master of Minions. As the demo opens the Overlord, aided and abetted by a team of brown fighter Minions, emerges from his underground lair into the ice caves only to discover a Yeti frozen in a block of ice. The Minions can, in their inimitably violent way, 'defrost' him and then give chase as he knuckles out into the snowy wastes of the Hunting Grounds, near the town of Nordberg."

Gamestop offers Overlord II pre-order (non-living) collectible minion

Collecting, well, collectibles can be an obsession for some folks. And now game retailer Gamestop is offering those kinds of people a very expensive way to collect four different figurines that depict minions from the forthcoming fantasy strategy-RPG game Overlord II. If you pre-order the game you receive just one of the four minions pictured above.

Which means, of course, that to get all four figures you have to pre-order four separate copies of Overlord II.That means spending a whopping $120 on the game from developer Triumph Studios and publisher Codemasters. Those dastardly companies. They know collectible fans have to spend that much money for stuff that has an outside chance of being worth .. .well, we really don't know. But that's part of the fun isn't it?

Overlord 2 gets final release dates

One of the biggest game developers that apparently had decided to bypass exhibiting at E3 next month is Codemasters, despite the fact that they have a pretty impressive upcoming game line-up in 2009. This week GameSpot got word on the final release dates of one of those titles, Overlord II.

The action-RPG sequel from developer Triumph Studios has the player once again controlling a fantasy bad guy trying to take over a kingdom. The game is now due for release on June 23 for North American gamers while UK customers will have to wait until June 26 to get their copies. As we have reported before, Rhianna Pratchett returns as the writer for the sequel. She won the Writers Guild of Great Britain award for her work on the first game in the series
