Blackshot closed beta begins next week

A couple of months ago we reported on plans to launch yet another free-to-play first person shooter. The Korean-developed game Blackshot is being published in the US by Outspark and is scheduled to be officially launched later this year. However, plans for a closed beta test have now been announced.

Sign-ups are now being taken for the closed beta on the game's official web site and the beta is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Sept. 30. The beta will give its selected players access to four characters, 17 weapons, seven maps, three gameplay modes and over 30 types of armor. New screenshots from the game have also been released and we have reproduced them here.

Free-to-play FPS Blackshot announced

You can add to the growing lists of hardcore free-to-play games the upcoming first person shooter title Blackshot. Published in the US by Outspark the game has some simple descriptions; "Powerful weapons, lifelike characters and gritty environments." There's also something called the "player-versus-enviroment" mode which sounds an awful lot like a single player campaign. Well that's all you really need to know right now isn't it?

Blackshot's official web site has a CGI trailer running ( with some typical SWAT-like members running and shooting) with word that the open beta for the game should launch "soon". More details about the game are supposed to be revealed in the coming weeks. The big question is whether Blackshot can compete with rival upcoming free-to-play shooter titles like id Software's Quake Live or EA's Battlefield Heroes.

Project Powder soon to enter closed beta 2

Project Powder, the snowboarding multiplayer online game, has recently finished its first closed beta, and is ramping up for closed beta 2. We recently had a chance to check this title out at Outspark's San Francisco studio, and can vouch for its exciting gameplay.

As some of what we've seen will likely change by launch, we'll refrain from going into too many details here. Rest assured, however, there is a good chance will be bringing you some first impressions soon enough! Until then, enjoy these screenshots of actual gameplay!

Project Powder announces closed beta

It's the very beginning of summer and there's still snow on the mountains in some parts, but it's not too early to start thinking about snow boarding. Outspark just announced that they're accepting applications for the Project Powder closed beta.

Project Powder is an online multiplayer snowboard racing game set in the not-so-distant future of 2146 AD. Apparently global warming got the best of us, melted the Earth's ice caps, and now winter is a thing of the past. Mankind's unexplainable lust for snow and pristine powder led them to create warp gates which took them to virgin planets blanketed in the cold, white stuff. Sounds flimsy, but hey... it's a racing game! Based on the screen shots, the graphics looks interesting (almost cell-shaded), and might be fun for a casual change of pace. And who doesn't like to beat their friends, right?

Closed Beta will let players choose from three of the four characters and race through six of the game's thirty-three courses, while competing in three different game modes. Beating opponents levels up your character and earns currency to buy new gear and snowboards. You can also use Project Powder's trick tree to customize movesets and new tricks. All in in a low gravity atmosphere. Registration is now open, but beta space is limited (servers open on June 24). Those who get accepted will be notified via email.
