Red River trailer shows the joys of co-operative play

This is the kind of trailer we love to see. It's entirely composed of in-game footage depicting Red River's multiplayer, and while the editing is shaky and a little incoherent, it still has a lot of content for players to chew into. Trailers that have this much footage of actual game mechanics are a treat, and we recommend that anybody interested in the latest Operation Flashpoint title give it a look. There's tons of squad mechanics, vehicle attacks, and bleeding out to catch your attention.

Red River trailer makes the difficult decision to retreat

One thing many budding strategists forget to do is retreat their forces. After all, replenishing a damaged force is far easier than building a new force from scratch. The marines know that lives are too precious to be wasted, though, and this Red River trailer shows them doing what every strategist loathes to order: fall back. There's tons of game footage as well as a few bits of classic cinematics (guys all sitting around in a vehicle waiting for something to happen), but there's nothing here we haven't seen before.

Red River trailer gets respect from all sides

This Red River trailer is interesting. It definitely has a ton of gameplay footage, although not a whole lot from the vehicle perspective. We always love gameplay footage. But on the other hand, it also has a rather irritating voice-over by one of the campaign's main characters. At times it is charming, but it doesn't exactly strike our fancy. Maybe it's the overt characterization of rednecks as being less smart and more gung-ho than normal people. Still, if you like fancy real-world shooting, this trailers got enough to sate you.

Operation Flashpoint Red River gets April 26 release date

Operation Flashpoint Red River is coming in for duty in just a couple of months. GameSpot reports that Codemasters' latest game in the military shooter series will be released on April 26 in the US for the PC and other platforms. The game will be out in the UK a few days earlier on April 21.

The final game will contain a campaign with 10 missions and support for up to four players in co-op mode as the players fight in the war torn region of Tajikistan. Gamespot reports that the game will also feature four character classes (scout, grenadier, rifleman, and auto rifleman). Finally look for Fireteam Engagements, a skirmish feature that again supports up to four players in a variety of maps and modes.

Red River trailer notices the percussion of modern war

Did you say you wanted more Red River trailers? Because here is another one! This one is more of a cinematic trailer than the previous, and covers the beginning of the campaign into Tajikstan. The Marines must take a dam and the surrounding town in order to help the local populace (or, as it is put in the trailer, "win the hearts and minds of the people"), but they are being blocked by militiamen. That's all! There is, of course, some explosions and gunfire to accentuate all the talking.

Operation Flashpoint: Red River diary improves how you fight

The newest Operation Flashpoint did not receive very rave reviews upon release, but that's not stopping Ubisoft. The latest in the series is the aptly titled Red River, and the developers have released the first diary covering all the additions, changes, and otherwise improvements that have been made to it. We noted more interesting guns, more varied environments, a cool character unlocks system, and the new PLA army opponents. In other words, all the things you would expect from an expansion pack.

Operation Flashpoint: Red River trailer fights in Tajikistan

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising was not a very well-received game. Despite having a lot of high-concept promise, it failed to deliver on its potential. Now the game is receiving an expansion pack that will hopefully put right what didn't quite fly last time. Red River is an expansion that takes place in the embattled country of Tajikistan, and it pits the forces of the US military against both insurgents and the grand Chinese army. This trailer claims to offer a glimpse into the gameplay of the game, but it's really more of a story trailer. There is a little bit of gameplay in the mix, but not really anything from the player's point of view.

Operation Flashpoint trailer teases at a new expansion

While the Operation Flashpoint series is now out of the original developer's hands, Codemasters wants to keep the series going strong. The latest addition to this is the Red River expansion pack, and this trailer aims to get you excited for it. It's a really slick, beautiful trailer that portrays a group of soldiers as they get ready for a hot drop into contested territory. While it's certainly pleasing to watch, there's not really a whole lot of information. There doesn't need to be, though, as everything in this trailer is perfectly calculated to send the military or gun fan wild.

Operation Flashpoint Red River and Dirt 3 due out in second quarter of 2011

Codemasters has two major games coming out in a time period that's usually far less busy for new game releases. Eurogamer reports that the military shooter Operation Flashpoint Red River and the racing game Dirt 3 will both be coming out in the second quarter (April-June) of 2011.

Codemasters CEO Rod Cousens stated that releasing both games in that time period, rather than the busier time period of the first quarter of 2011, was deliberate, saying, "I don't think it does any good to publish in a congested period when everyone's putting out their shooters." In addition you can look for the next game in the GRID racing game series to be released sometime in 2012. Unfortunately, the article doesn't mention the current status of Jumpgate Evolution, the long delayed space-based MMO from developer Netdevil.

Operation Flashpoint Red River officially announced

Revealed last month, Codemasters has now issued the official press release announcing Operation Flashpoint: Red River, the upcoming third game in the military shooter franchise. This game is supposedly being build around four-player co-op gameplay although it will still have a single player mode.

Set in the country of Tajikistan, the game centers on a group of US Marines that will deal with a threat from the Chinese PLA. The game will feature three "acts" that can be played in single player or in "drop in-drop out" co-op play. Look for improved AI, a better inventory system, player class roles, XP unlocks and more. The game is due out in 2011. By the way the image you see above is not an in-game screenshot but merely a "target visual" that Codemasters wants to reach for the game.
