No Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition for PC users?

It's looking like PC gamers may indeed be denied a chance to own the uber-expensive version of Infinity Ward's next shooter title Modern Warfare 2. Retailers like Amazon.com, Best Buy and Gamestop have all shown on their web sites that while PC owners can order the regular game and the "Hardened Edition" (with behind-the-scenes info, an art book and a code to download the first Call of Duty game) there is no such PC listing for the $149.99 Prestige Edition.

That version of the game, as we have reported before, has fully working night vision goggles. Granted that bonus product isn't exactly game related but it's still a shame that PC gamers are once again not being given the same kinds of opportunities that their console counterparts are being given. So far neither Infinity Ward nor publisher Activision has commented on the reason behind this decision, despite comments from people on the Infinity Ward message boards asking for info. We have emailed Activision for comment on this matter.

Yet another BlizzCon 2009 trip contest announced

Finding tickets for BlizzCon 2009 to buy is near impossible at this point but there are some contests where you might get a chance to win a trip to Blizzard's sort-of annual game event. We've already told you about two of them; one is sponsored by Nvidia while the other is sponsored by SteelSeries.

Now comes word that gaming PC mouse maker Razer has launched its own BlizzCon trip contest. Simply register at the official contest web site and complete the two web-based "quests" that could get you a chance to win, among other things, a Razer DeathAdder mouse. The grand prize winner will get a trip for two to BlizzCon on August 21-22 in Anaheim, California. You must enter the contest by August 3.

New Nvidia beta drivers released along with new 3D Vision drivers

If you want to try out the newly released Resident Evil 5 3D benchmarking tool, you will need to have the right monitor, the right Nvidia graphics card, the right GeForce 3D Vision glasses and now the right drivers. Nvidia has just released new 190.38 drivers for the 3D Vision glasses (for Windows Vista and Windows 7). These drivers have been optimized to work on the new benchmark tool from Capcom. A number of newly supported 3D Vision games have been added with the new drivers; check out the list at this web site.

The new 3D Vision drivers require new beta GeForce 190.38 drivers and while there's no game performance improvements in this update it does add support for OpenGL 3.1 and CUDA 2.3. It also has new power management features.

Resident Evil 5 comes to the PC September 15 - in 3D!

Capcom's latest survival horror game now has a release date for our platform. Resident Evil 5 will have its PC port ship to stores on September 15 in the US (Europeans will have to wait until September 18 to get the port). The PC version will have some new content compared to the console versions including "new costumes and a new and improved mercenaries mode with three times as many enemies."

For those of you who have the equipment, the PC port will also contain support for Nvidia's GeForce 3D Vision glasses. According to Capcom the game will also be the first PC game to include support for "Stereoscopic 3D in all of its cut scenes." If you have the 3D Vision glasses, the right Nvidia graphics card and the supported monitors you can download a Resident Evil 5 3D benchmark utility right here. Be sure you meet all the requirements at Nvidia's Nzone web site and get a pack of 3D Vision supported screenshots from there too. If you are going to the San Diego Comic-Con next week, Capcom will be showing the PC port of Resident Evil 5 with the 3D effects to the public for the first time at their booth.

Friday's the day for the new PC Call of Duty: World at War map pack

PC fans of the Treyarch-Activision WWII shooter Call of Duty: World at War will be very happy and busy this weekend. A message on the game's official message board has the good word that the 1.5 update to the game will be released to the public sometime on Friday.

The 1.5 patch, in addition to fixing a number of issues in the game (you can check out the full change list right here) will also include the second map pack which was previously released for the console versions. As we have reported before the map pack will have three new multiplayer levels along with the new zombie themed map titled 'Shi No Numa' (Zombie Swamp).

Dragon Age: Origins collector's editon to include Mass Effect 2 bonus

BioWare is assuming if you like one game they have made, you might just be interested in another title they are making. We are assuming that's the theory behind one of the special items in the Dragon Age: Origins collector's edition. The fantasy RPG, due out on October 20, will be priced at $69.99 for the special version and among other things will include a way to unlock an exclusive in-game item in another upcoming BioWare title, the sci-fi RPG Mass Effect 2.

The Collector's Edition will come in a tin casing and besides the game will have a special behind-the-scenes DVD (with wallpaper, the game's soundtrack, trailers, concept art videos and more). It will also have a cloth map of the game's fictional world. You can also expect three exclusive in-game items (Bergens Honor, Grimoire of the Frozen Wastes and Final Reason) and an exclusive unlockable bonus quest, The Stone Prisoner, that also contains a new playable character. That's quite a lot for an extra $20.

Remedy: Alan Wake's PC fate is up to Microsoft

The long, long awaited action-thriller game Alan Wake from Remedy was first shown as a PC game in 2005 and was announced as coming to the PC when Microsoft came in as a publisher in 2006. However with the game's re-appearance last month at E3 Microsoft and Remedy have only talked about the game showing up on the Xbox 360 platform.

Today several fan sites, including Brightfalls.net, received an official statement from Remedy stating that Alan Wake is currently being made only for the Xbox 360 at this point. The note added, "Remedy has a deep heritage in PC gaming and would love to see a PC version available to its PC followers, ultimately however this decision lies with our publisher." It's important to note that Microsoft does have a history of releasing PC ports of many of their Xbox and Xbox 360 games including Halo, Halo 2, Gears of War, Fable and others so folks should not automatically assume that an Alan Wake PC port is dead.

Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta gets release date and first screenshots

Bethesda Softworks previously announced that their next DLC expansion for their hit RPG Fallout 3 would be titled Mothership Zeta. Today the company released more info about the mini-expansion and as you might guess it's all about aliens coming to probe your character's . . . er, body. The expansion will be made available for download on August 3 via Games for Windows Live for 800 Microsoft points (about $10).

The storyline has your character finding a crashed alien spaceship in the Capitol Wastelands. The problem is that the aliens are still around and beam you to their orbiting mothership. Your goal is to explore the ship, get to the bridge, and escape. Of course the aliens and their robot drones have other plans. New weapons like the Alien Atomizer, the Alien Disintegrator and the Drone Cannon will be used along with new outfits and of course new enemies. Mothership Zeta is the last of the downloadable expansions that Bethesda Softworks has announced for Fallout 3 but there's every possibility that more could be in the works.
