Nuclear Dawn teases us with latest gameplay footage

Nuclear Dawn
is a game that started out as a project for some Half-Life 2 mod makers that has evolved into a full stand alone game using the Source engine. Now the long awaited post-apocalypse themed first person shooter finally has a target month for release (September 2011).

The team at developer Interwave Studios decided to give us a little taste of Nuclear Dawn's gameplay with the following trailer. It's way too brief to give us a reasonable chance to see if there's a chance the final producer will be any good but at least the looks of the game are solid.

Nuclear Dawn gets September 2011 release date; new trailer released

Developer Interwave Studios has been working on its Source Engine-based RTS-shooter Nuclear Dawn for some time and on Friday (in what we assume was not intended to be an April Fool's joke) the game's official web site announced that Nuclear Dawn is now set for a September 2011 release date.

Not only that but the site has also announced that it will be taking pre-orders for the game about 60 days before it is officially released. Furthermore pre-orders will get access to the closed beta test which will launch sometime in August. Finally the game now has a new trailer, with a mix of CGI and in-game footage, which you can see after the jump:

Nuclear Dawn development update: no vehicles in final game

It's been a while since we have looked into the development of the upcoming Source Engine-based first person shooter Nuclear Dawn. This weekend the development team at Interwave Studios posted up a new blog entry. Progress seems to be going well with the blog update stating that the game has been in closed alpha testing, including input from Valve.

Unfortunately, the testing has apparently shown that Nuclear Dawn's plans for drivable vehicles in the final version won't be implemented. The blog post states, "There are many reasons, but they all boil down to 'not enough time before release'. The game is in feature lockdown mode, and there simply is not enough time to tweak the physics and net code to the degree that we require to fully realize our vision of vehicular combat.." Interwave sees this move as a good thing in the long run, stating, "Not having to focus on vehicles at this moment will make Nuclear Dawn a more powerful product, as we hunker down to forge an unforgettable combat experience."

Nuclear Dawn now due out in first quarter of 2011

Earlier this week there was some excitement when the Steam web site showed that the Source Engine-based shooter Nuclear Dawn had been "released'. However it turned out that the issue was with the Steam site as it gave an incorrect release date for the game.

However that slight misunderstanding was enough for the Nuclear Dawn development team to come out of hiding and give an update on the game's status. It states, "The good news is that Nuclear Dawn will be a few more months in the making, and Q1 2011 is more than a hazarded guess." it also hints that a beta announcement is coming "in the next two weeks."

Nuclear Dawn hopes to turn from mod to full game

We have seen mod teams turn their creations to full fledged commercial titles. Some have had great success (Killing Floor) and others not so much (Damnation). Now a team based in the Netherlands called Interwave have announced similar plans for their Source Engine-based title Nuclear Dawn.

The game's official web site has already launched with info, screenshots and concept artwork from the game, which takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. The game itself is multiplayer-oriented with two teams (The Empire and The Consortium of Free States) battling it out on what looks like bombed out urban settings. The game is currently set for a 2010 release date.
