Hot Pursuit goes on tour in Chicago

The folks at Electronic Arts and Criterion have been pumping up anticipation for the next Need For Speed game, and the way they've been accomplishing this is simple: go on tour! Like Madden, EA has been showcasing Hot Pursuit across the country, and the latest trailer shows off the most recent party in Chicago. Full of dancing people, drinks, music, and the game, it doesn't really show much about the game proper. However, assuming the reactions are genuine, it's showing that EA's marketing scheme is working, and that people are getting excited for this game. Us? We don't need a party to get excited!

Hot Pursuit trailer beats and disses the competition

Need For Speed Hot Pursuit is being remade by the folks at Criterion, so it only follows that their hyper-aggressive tone would make the transition between franchises. Nothing quite sets you up for the raw, unbridled phallus-waving than this trailer, however. Hot Pursuit aims to take the art of one-upmanship and push it even further with the Autolog feature, which is detailed (with game footage!) in the video above.

While there is the characteristic traits of Hot Pursuit, such as cops and roadblocks, this new trailer pushes how you will compete with your friends. When your friend beats your score on a particular track, he can send out a notification to you mentioning how awesome he is. Want to prove your radical attitude right back? Just press yes to accept the challenge and play the course! This trailer is a particularly effective tool for demonstrating this since it shows actual in-game footage.

Hot Pursuit trailer gets back to Need For Speed's roots

It's been long known that Criterion has been working on a Need For Speed game, and now we finally know. It's a remake of the third game, with which it shares the subtitle Hot Pursuit. While the released trailer shows nothing in the way of gameplay. We can safely be pumping for this game, as it it both a return to the series' roots and a racing game made by the developers of Burnout. If that's not exciting, we don't know what is.

New Need For Speed game, 24-month development cycle

Finally, EA is beginning to learn. Tired of a torturing single team doing monthly installments, they have put into place two teams working on 24-month development cycles. What does this mean? It means that while the iterations will continue to be annual, they will be much higher quality than previously seen. Speaking to an investor's meeting, John Riccitiello had this to say:
"We were torturing a very talented group of people up in Vancouver, which makes it harder to be as innovative every year. So, I think we are going to get better from here."
He also announced the newest game in the series, Need For Speed Undercover, with a TBA release date. Stay tuned in for more information as we get it!
