Boot Disk: Heroes of Might and Magic

Sometimes you just need to sit down, slide a floppy into your A: drive, and enjoy gaming retro style. We know this all too well! That's why we have a list of the best and brightest from days long gone. These are some of our favorite games of all time, and we're sure that you'll love them as much as we do, if not more. Welcome to Boot Disk, and enjoy the retro ride!

It's time for the last game we are going to cover in the Heroes of Might and Magic series. No, it's not Heroes of Might and Magic 4. Rather, we're talking about the original gangsta. The RPG-strategy hybrid that started it all. Heroes of Might and Magic may not have a lot of the later improvements that the series slapped on, but it just makes the experience that much more pure. Playing the first game is a reminder of just how much the series has progressed and how much we love roaming around wiht our heroes, smashing apart armies and towns. It may be old and it may be less complicated than its successors, but it's still amazing.

GoG.com bundles first six Might and Magic games into one collection

Earlier this week GoG.com celebrated its first anniversary with a special Interplay "buy one game, get one free" promotion that's still going on until the end of the day Tuesday. Today they have added another game to their extensive DRM-free PC game library. Or rather, GoG.com has added six games to its library.

The first six games in New World Computing's Might and Magic turn based RPG series are now available to download as one big bundle from GoG.com for a mere $9.99. The download even has an bonus adventure, Sword of Xeen, along with in-game soundtracks, cluebooks and maps to help you out. It's certainly a quick and easy way to check out one of the best RPG series of the 1990s'

It was only a few Boot Disks ago that I talked about my personal favorite in the Heroes of Might and Magic series. However, there is a different game in the series that has a better reputation than the one I prefer. The one game that is considered the favorite in the series by most is easily Heroes of Might and Magic 3, which has the best gameplay of any Might and Magic game to date. It was recently made available on GoG.com, and now that anyone can enjoy it, it's a definite must for any strategy fan. It reeks of retro style, and in the realm of strategy, retro is king.

GoG.com adds Heroes of Might and Magic for special intro price

GoG.com keeps adding and adding to its DRM-free library of PC games and today they have a new title with an extra twist. It's Heroes of Might and Magic, the turn based fantasy strategy game from developer New World Computing that was originally published by 3DO in 1996 (the Might and Magic series is now owned by Ubisoft).

You can download and play the game now for just $5.99 but there's the twist: that price is only good until the end of the day on Thursday, May 21. After that the price will increase to $9.99 so if you want to get the game on the cheap you just have a week to do so.
