Big Download's News Bits & Bytes - November 30

Wow. We are just one month away from the end of 2010. Still no second manned Jupiter mission. Still no first manned Jupiter mission, actually. American and Russia, you have 31 more days to make our sci-fi dreams come true.

This Week In PC Games: November 29-December 5

There are quite a few games due to be released this week, especially on the downloadable side, as we near the end of the year. In addition to the games listed below Futuremark plans to release its gaming themed benchmarking software, 3DMark 11, on Monday.

Super Meat Boy: After a successful run on the Xbox 360, the two man team at developer Team Meat brings its challenging (some might say too challenging) platform action game to the PC. This port will not only have some extra characters but will also support the creation of new levels, although the level editor won't be released for a while.

nail'd trailer gets your blood pumping with adrenaline

nail'd is coming out in about a week, and the folk over at Techland really, really want you to play it. So do, apparently, the previews. This trailer gives us both a look at the nail'd gameplay (looking as arcade-like and fun as ever) as well as some of the kind words being said about the ATV racing game. We haven't gotten our hands on it quite yet, but if it's as good as this trailer and the mentioned previews say it is, it's going to be one of the best racing games in recent memory. If not, well, it'll be one major disappointment. Still, explosions!

Nail'd to offer free DLC code for US copies

The upcoming high-flying off-road racing game Nail'd is offering its US audience an nice extra when it's released on November 30. All copies of the Techland-developed game will get a code that will allow gamers to get some extra downloadable content to the title.

The DLC code will add four new tracks to the game along with a new gameplay mode called Detonator that has the racers passing around ticking bombs. The key is to not be holding one before it explodes. It will also add the Bomb Cup to the single player campaign with five new races. Finally the DLC code adds new parts for the bikes and ATVs and new driver suits.

nail'd trailer sells some white knuckle syndrome cream

Ever grip a controller so hard - play a game so intensely - that your knuckles turn albino? Neither have we. Granted, we're already pasty white from the chronic lack of sun, so it may just be us. Regardless, if you have pale knuckles, the developers behind nail'd want you to know two things: you aren't alone, and there is a treatment. Of course, said treatment is fake and consists of women's make-up liberally applied to your hands, but hey! There's no hard in it. The absurdity of this trailer approaches (but doesn't surpass) the hilarious craziness of the first Serious Sam HD commercial, so it's definitely worth a watch.

Nail'd gets new web site and new November 30 release date

It's a game that's pretty much threatening to go under the radar in this busy holiday season but developer Techland and publisher Deep Silver are still planning to release the off-road racing game with the odd title nail'd sometime in 2010. Today the game got a newly revamped web site with more info, videos and screenshots showing the game in all of its high flying off-road stunt action.

While the game was supposed to be out this month, our siste site Joystiq is reporting that nail'd won't be making that stunt work. Instead the game is due out in the US on November 30 with a price point of $39.99 for the PC version.

nail'd trailer goes off some insane jumps, crashes into balloons

nail'd is pitching itself as a crazy and ridiculous alternative to more realistic off-road racing games. Judging by this trailer, that's not inaccurate. Despite a rather rocky start, the trailer proceeds to get into some of the races after a short while. In doing so, it shows off explosions, ragdoll effects, crashing into hot air balloons, and flying through hoops. In short, it's a trailer for thoroughly ridiculous game. We hope that the end product lives up to just how silly this trailer is, as there is always enough room for explosion-laden, crashfest racing games.

Nail'd gets October 19 release date

We still find it funny that Techland, the Poland-based developer best known for its first person shooter titles like Chrome and the two games in the Call of Juarez series would make an off-road racing game. But they did and the result is Nail'd. The title was announced earlier this year by its publisher Deep Silver.

Now our sister site Joystiq has posted word that the game will be released on October 19 in the US and on October 22 in other parts of the world. We think we might enjoy this admittedly over-the-top racing experience. Now if we can just get Techland to give us some clues as to their long-in-development zombie game Dead Island we'd be really happy.

nail'd trailer gets harder, stronger, and faster

It's interesting when another developer aims their sights at a successful franchise. In this case, the target is PURE, the game is nail'd, and the developer is Techland. This trailer for is plenty indication of that, with its direct reference to Black Rock's latest offroad game. We can't say that we see trailers too often that attack, directly or indirectly, another game series, so this one is a bit refreshing! Even if it looks like more of the same to our uninitiated eyes.
