True Games Interactive has launched a free-to-play MMO in Warrior Epic and its next online game Mytheon (with developer Petroglyph) is getting close to an official launch. Today the company announced a name change to UTV True Games. The change was made to better reflect the important of UTV, the India-based company that holds a majority stake in True Games.

The company also announced today that they have recently signed an agreement to publish a new game from a unnamed but "leading online game developer." No other details on the game were revealed. This new title is in addition to the previously announced but unnamed MMO game that's currently being worked on at UTV True Games' headquarters in Austin, Texas. The company also has a development team in Asia that supports Warrior Epic and is working on a second unnamed game.

Earlier this week we reported that True Games Interactive had filed a lawsuit against developer Petroglyph Games, claiming that the developer behind True Games' upcoming free-to-play action-RPG Mytheon was refusing to patch the game and was also holding "the source codes hostage ... making it impossible for TGI to complete Mytheon."

Despite the claims in the lawsuit the game itself is still in open beta and indeed a patch for the beta was released on Thursday. In a post on the game's official message board, True Games stated that even with the lawsuit, "Mytheon will proceed through Open Beta and launch officially in the near future. We cannot provide more details at this time." Big Download has contacted Petroglyph for their side on the lawsuit but the developer has chosen not to comment at this time.

In an unexpected development, True Games Interactive has decided to file a lawsuit against developer Petroglyph, the maker of True Games' upcoming multiplayer action-RPG Mytheon. The game entered open beta testing late in April but now True Games claims Petroglyph is refusing to fix bugs in the beta version and is holding "the source codes hostage ... making it impossible for TGI to complete Mytheon."

True Games' lawsuit, filed on May 4 and first reported by Courthouse News, claims that Petroglyph made "repeated, unreasonable demands . . . for additional funds and concessions" for developing Mytheon. True Games claims those actions as well as holding back the source code for the game, "poisoned the working relationship between TGI and Petroglyph, such that the entire multi-million dollar venture is in danger of collapsing." True Games accuses Petroglyph of breaching its contract and is asking for punitive damages and an an injunction to get Mytheon's source code. Big Download emailed Petroglyph for comment but so far we have not received a response.

As promised, developer Petroglyph and publisher True Games Interactive have moved into the open beta phase of their free-to-play action-RPG Mytheon. Players who participate in the open beta from now through Friday will be entered into a giveaway contest with an Alienware m17x laptop as the first prize. Other prizes will include Mytheon-engraved iPod Touches (Touchi?) and iTunes gift cards.

In addition to being able to check out new content that's been added to the game since the closed beta ended, the new open beta will have the game's cash shop items available for purchase via "Mytheon coins". There's no word yet on when the game will officially launch.

After a couple of months in closed beta testing, developer Petroglyph and publisher True Games have announced that their upcoming free-to-play action-RPG Mytheon is now ready for the masses to check out. The open beta for the game will begin on Wednesday, April 28.

In addition to the open beta launch, players will get the chance to purchase a Champions of Mytheon package in early May. This optional package will be available to the first 2,000 players who purchase it. Those that do will get "lifetime access to discount currency, premium offerings, exclusive, one-time only items, and sneak previews of new content before release." There's no word on what the package will cost.

This trailer reveals some of the fast-paced sword and spell action player can expect from the online action role-playing game, Mytheon. The game is currently in closed beta, and players can visit the official website to sign up for access. The beta client can be downloaded here.

"Mytheon is an online, multiplayer action/RPG with strategic game play where players experience classic mythology come to life and challenge legendary gods to define their own fate. Players, or 'Stonecasters,' are powerful humans imbued with the ability to cast spells, summon minions, and erect structures that aid them in battle. An assortment of classes are available that approach combat differently and offer a range of unique, cinematic abilities."

If you are in the currently running Mytheon beta and the game suddenly cannot be accessed on Saturday evening, there's likely nothing wrong. Developer Petroglyph and publisher True Games Interactive have anounced that the beta test for the upcoming online action-RPG will go dark at 11:30 pm Eastern time (8:30 pm Pacific time) for one hour on Saturday.

The short shut down is during the 2010 edition of "Earth Hour". Sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund the event encourages people and businesses to switch off their lights during that hour all over the world. Earth Hour is suppose to encourage people to look for alternatives to current energy usage.

It looks like the closed beta test for Petroglyph Games' upcoming online action-RPG Mytheon has been more popular that first predicted. Indeed the rush to try out the game has apparently overwhelmed the servers for the game so much that the closed beta test will close down for a couple of days to address some game crashing and access issues.

The beta should be unavailable to play right now but will come back online by 9 pm Eastern time on Wednesday. Unfortuntately any characters created during the beta test will be wiped as a result of the down time. The message on the Mytheon message boards states, "We understand that it is an interruption of your game play and apologize for the inconvenience. We are confident that this update will bring a better game play experience for all of our players in Mytheon."

The folks at developer Petroglyph Games and publisher True Games Interactive are now letting outsiders try out their upcoming free-to-play action RPG Mytheon. Today the companies launched the closed beta test for the game which will let a select group of players battle online in a Greek mythology setting. The Mytheon closed beta installation client can be downloaded here.
