Issues with Steam version of Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight found

Yesterday's release of the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight games from LucasArts on Steam wasn't totally smooth at least for two of the games. Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight and its expansion pack Mysteries of the Sith are not agreeing with a number of current PC gaming rigs, at least according to comments made on the Steam message boards (for the record we have experienced no such problems with running the Steam versions of the games on our PC).

Valve's message boards have some answers to gamer's complaints about the game including the fact that the game is supposed to be in windowed mode for cut scenes and for the game's menu screens (the game itself runs in full screen). Other issues like 3D acceleration, screen resolution and keyboard button setups are also addressed. One big thing that can't be solved is the in-game music which for Dark Forces II was solely on the CD. That means there's no in-game music for the Steam version.

Feature: Looking back at the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series

LucasArts' Twitter page nowhas more info on the upcoming digital download release of their next batch of classic PC games. As we reported earlier this week LucasArts will re-release the Jedi Knight series of first person action game via Steam (and also Direct2Drive). LucasArts' Twitter page said the actual release date will be on Wednesday, September 16.

And just how many of the games in the series will be released? According to LucasArts it will be ALL of them. That means we can expect to play four terrific stand alone games plus one expansion pack when the series is re-released next week. Just in case you are not familiar with the series, we have created a handy guide to help you out. We also take a look at some non-game related Dark Forces/Jedi Knight products.
