Exclusive: No Mirror's Edge DLC on Thursday; delayed until February

People who have been waiting for the Time Trial DLC for Digital Illusions' recent first person action game Mirror's Edge will have to wait a bit longer. Big Download has learned via a spokesperson for the game's publisher Electronic Arts that the Time Trial level pack, originally scheduled to be released on Thursday, has been delayed.

According to the statement from the EA spokesperson we contacted, "To offer a completely smooth experience for players, DICE announced today that the DLC map pack for Mirror's Edge on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC will be delayed until February. However, the free exclusive map for PlayStation 3 players will be available to download on January 29 as previously announced. " PC owners of the game will still spend $10 to get the level pack when it is finally released.

New Nvidia Geforce graphics drivers and PhysX drivers released

If you love updating your graphics drivers (and really who doesn't?) then Nvidia has made your day today. They have released new Windows XP and Windows Vista versions of their latest GeForce graphics drivers. As usual you can pick your poison over at the company's web site.

The new 181.22 drivers have some performance improvements for all those PhysX physics effects for the recent PC port of Mirror's Edge along with a PhysX software update. Other bug fixes deal with Fallout 3 issues and the benchmark test in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky (depending on which version of Windows you happen to be using).

Promised Left 4 Dead patch released; Mirror's Edge now on Steam

As promised by Valve team members in emails to gamers earlier this week, the first major patch release for their hit zombie co-op shooter Left 4 Dead has now been released and is available via Valve's Steam service. For those of you who happen to own an Xbox 360 version of the game a patch for that port is still in the works.

The Steam web site has a list of all of the changes and bug fixes in this release. Some of the fixes include dealing with several map exploits, improving load times, dealing with several issues in the Versus gameplay mode and changes and fixes for each of the four boss zombie types. Again this is mainly a bug fix patch; the first content update for Left 4 Dead is still in the works. And for those of you who have been waiting for this news, the PC version of Digital Illusions' first person action game Mirror's Edge is also now available to download via Steam.

EA games now on Steam; no third party DRM included

In perhaps their biggest game publisher deal yet, Valve has announced secured the rights to distribute a number of PC game titles from Electronic Arts via their Steam service. EA has previously handled downloadable PC game titles via their own EA Downloader service but now Spore, Spore Creepy and Cute Parts Pack, Warhammer Online, Mass Effect, FIFA Manager 09, and Need For Speed Undercover are now all available to purchase and download via Steam (sorry, rest of the world, this is for North America only).

In addition to those games, EA will also offer Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3, Dead Space and the upcoming PC port of Mirror's Edge via Steam in the near future. When contacted by Big Download, an EA spokesperson would not comment if any of EA's older PC games might find their way onto Steam as well. If you have been wanting to buy EA games but have been avoiding purchasing them because of EA's use of DRM in their recent titles, a message of Valve's Steam forums states that the EA games on Steam do not use third party DRM or SecuROM set-up, saying, " the only DRM it uses is Steam itself."

Mirror's Edge PC release date narrowed

Last month we reported that the PC version of Mirror's Edge would finally be released this January. Today the free-running action game from Digital Illusions and Electronic Arts has a more specific release date. In a press release EA stated the PC version would be released on January 13 and in other markets on January 16.

As we have reported previously the PC version will have support for Nvidia's PhysX game physics which when turned on will allow gamers to interact with the game world on a higher level. Meanwhile PC gamers can play this 2D Flash game based on Mirror's Edge right now. In late January the PC version will apparently get some downloadable content in the form of seven Time Trial levels.
