Miner Wars 2081, the PC space-based action game that's currently in open alpha testing, is now financially secure, at least according to a press release from the game's developer Keen Software House. The company announced today that it has raised 1 million euros from unnamed "private investors."

According to the press release this new influx of money will allow Keen Software House to "focus entirely on the development of Miner Wars, the VRAGE engine, and other projects yet to be announced." That includes hiring new team members at the company's offices in Prague.

The game itself has been sold as an alpha build for some time for 70 percent off the final version's price. However there's no word yet on when the final version of Miner Wars will be released.

The pre-alpha demo for Miner Wars 2081. It has all the features that will be included in the full game, such as drilling, harvesting, weapons, etc. and will receive regular updates. However, demo players will be restricted to one sector of space. Players who want the full game can upgrade their account from within the demo or visit www.minerwars.com.

Also note that this is an early, pre-alpha, version of the game and should be considered as a work in progress. Updates and features will be added regularly. System requirements are shown after the jump.

The sci-fi action game Miner Wars from developer Keen Software House has announced a small name change for the game. The developer has renamed the game to Miner Wars 2081. Why add the "2081" to the title? According to Keen Software, "We felt the need to present our game more clearly as a science fiction title. We also have sequels planned so it's important for us to give this installment its own unique identity."

Miner Wars is now also available from a number of PC game download sites including Impulsedriven.com. The game is still being sold as an alpha build for 70 percent off the game's price when its officially completed and launched.

Last week, the indie game developer Keen Software House announced that it was selling an early pre-alpha version of its space-based shooter Miner Wars for 70 percent off the price of the final version of the game. This week the developer released a new version of the game to its players that adds a number of new features including a sandbox gameplay mode, support for harvesting and mining asteroids in the game and more.

So far the development team says that "sales have been going spectacular and the sheer number of new registrations proves it." Specific sales figures were not announced but the update did state that in addition to sales of the pre-alpha version some players have also contributed straight donations to the development of Miner Wars.

Want to try out a game that's still in the early stage of development and pay for it? Well today is your lucky day. Developer Keen Software House has announced that it has a pre-alpha build of its sci-fi shooter title Miner Wars available for download for just $12.89.

That price is supposedly 70 percent off the price when the final version of Miner Wars is released. The game itself is a mix of Descent and Freespace as players control a space ship through an asteroid field where the asteroids themselves can be hollowed out by the ship's weapons. Players who purchase the game now will get free monthly updates and will get the final version of the title with no need to purchase anything else.

What do you get when you combine Descent with EVE Online? You might get Miner Wars, the indie space-based action game and MMO hybrid that's being developed by Keen Software House. Today the developer announced their plans to launch a closed beta test for the game.

Any player who has won a "medal" for contributing to the game can enter the closed beta test. If you want to get a medal this web page has the info on how to obtain one in order to be eligible for the closed beta test. It will allow players to create his or her own sectors with the game's own editor.

The Miner Wars benchmark demo lets users test the performance of their computer systems when running this subterranean themed shooter that features fully destructible environments. Although the demo is non-interactive, it features four different in-game animation sequences to truly show off the game's graphics. The demo also includes an auto-updating utility that will upgrade it into the single player beta in the coming weeks. The demo represents the game in its alpha stage and both the graphics and sound are subject to change. Miner Wars will also require an internet connection to be played.

This video presentation for Miner Wars uses in-game graphics to demonstrate the game's tremendous scope. Not only can the game handle some large-scale asteroids for players to fly through, but the terrain can be deformed in real-time. This video contains two 8 km asteroids, five medium sized ones and 300 mining ships.

It doesn't look like we will have a Descent revival anytime soon but fans of that classic six-degrees underground shooting game might want to check out the newly announced title Miner Wars. The title from UK-based Keen Software House is a sci-fi shooter title that takes place in an asteroid belt in space.

Miner Wars has you piloting a ship in a first person view where you can fly around and into asteroids, dig into them in any direction and fight off other ships as well. In addition to a single player campaign Miner Wars also has co-op and multiplayer modes. The game is currenty scheduled for a downloadable release this fall but no price has been announced.
