Might and Magic 8 added to GoG.com's line-up

GoG.com adds yet another game in the classic Might and Magic fantasy game franchise to its DRM-free PC game download site today. This time the site has added Might and Magic 8: Day of the Destroyer, the 2000 released single player RPG that was developed by New World Computing and released by the now defunct publisher 3DO.

The game, now owned and published by Ubisoft, features the player leading a band of warriors in order to stop an invasion from the planes of Fire, Air, Earth and Water that are threatening the game's fantasy world. The GoG.com version, which contains the game's soundtrack and other freebies, is now available to purchase and download for $5.99.

Might and Magic Heroes VI gets June 21 release date

The latest game in the Might and Magic series for the PC now has a firm release date. Publisher Ubisoft announced on its forums that the fantasy turn-based strategy game Might and Magic Heroes VI will be coming out on June 21 in the US. Most of Europe will get the Black Hole Entertainment-developed game a couple of days later on June 23 while the UK gets the game on June 24.

As we have reported pre-orders for the game have already started with Ubisoft promising that folks who put down their money ahead of time will gain access to the Might and Magic Heroes VI beta test. There's no word on when the beta test will begin.

Might and Magic Heroes VI trailer shows of Sanctuary faction

Might and Magic Heroes VI is starting to come out of its development shell with developer Black Hole Entertainment and publisher Ubisoft releasing new videos showing off the upcoming latest game in the fantasy turn-based strategy series. In a new video, the Sanctuary faction is shown off.

This faction has a ton of Asian influence in its gameplay and art style. The video goes into detail on what the faction believes in as well as its fictional back story. The faction uses water-based magic and prefers to use planning instead of pure brute strength in order to defeat their foes.

Earlier this week we reported on Ubisoft's plans to release a retail Collector's Edition of Might and Magic Heroes VI in Europe. Now people who want to purchase a downloadable copy of the upcoming turn-based strategy game can now do so via both Ubisoft's online store as well as Steam in both standard and deluxe digital versions.

Pre-orders for both versions will let players gain access to the game's upcoming beta test (no word yet on when that will start) along with an exclusive hero and exclusive in-game item. The standard edition costs $49.99. The Digital Deluxe version costs $54.99 and includes a number of extras that were mentioned in the game's Collector's Edition, including four exclusive heroes, two exclusive in-game items, a new map and a one month subscription to the browser MMO Might and Magic Heroes Kingdoms.

Might and Magic Heroes VI Collector's Edition revealed for Europe

Might and Magic Heroes VI is due out later this year but fans of the turn-based fantasy strategy game series in Europe will be getting a nice Collector's Edition of the game alongside the Standard Edition. Ubisoft announced the Collector's Edition via a YouTube trailer which you can check out after the jump.

In addition to the game, the Collector's Edition will include four exclusive in-game heroes, two exclusive in-game items, a real world metal ring, an art book, the game's CD soundtrack, a t-shirt and a poster. All of these items will be put in an extra-sized box. The Collector's Edition will also have a one month free subscription to Ubisoft's browser-based MMO Might and Magic: Heroes Kingdoms.

There's no word on pricing yet and there's also no word if the Collector's Edition will be released in the US. The game itself is set for release sometime in 2011.

GoG.com is working again with publisher Ubisoft to bring two long lost PC games from the Might and Magic series to modern PC gamers. One of them is Might and Magic 7: For Blood and Honor, the 1999 released fantasy RPG from Might and Magic's original developer New World Computing. You can get the DRM-free game now for $9.99.

Also available to purchase and download at GoG.com is Heroes of Might and Magic 4 Complete, the last game in the turn-based strategy series made by New World Computing before Ubisoft took over the franchise. This 2004 game release, which has the original game plus its two expansion packs, is now on GoG.com for $9.99.

Might and Magic Heroes VI trailer shows off combat

Might and Magic Heroes VI is the upcoming and latest game in the long running fantasy themed turn-based strategy game series. This week the game's publisher Ubisoft released a long (over 6 minutes) video showing off a typical combat round in the game.

As you will see in the video above, the visuals in the game, while not quite final, are pretty impressive for a game of this type. The turn-based gameplay is still there for combat but when a unit manages a critical hit on an enemy the game switches for a couple of seconds to a non-interactive cinematic for a better look at the hit. The game is scheduled to be released sometime in 2011.

Heroes VI trailer unveils the rebellious orc faction

While the world of Might and Magic Heroes VI appears to be a politically complex one, you can always count on one thing to cut through all the red tape: the brutality of the orcs. This new trailer introduces the orc-specific faction Stronghold and talks a bit about its history as a collection of rebellious slaves. It also shows some in-game footage of Stronghold's units in action, and they look like the perfect match for a player that loves to wade into the middle of a fight. Our only complaint? That single animation of an orc hitting someone is used so many times!

Might and Magic Heroes VI announced [Update]

While it's not quite the announcement we were hoping for (we though it might actually be a new entry in the core Might and Magic RPG series), publisher Ubisoft has just announced its plans to release Heroes of Might and Magic VI, the upcoming and latest installment of the fantasy strategy game series. The development team in charge of this entry is Black Hole Entertainment who previously created the RTS game Warhammer: Mark of Chaos.

Due out sometime in 2011, the new game actually takes place several hundred years before the events of the last game in the series Heroes of Might and Magic V. It retains the previous games' mix of turn-based strategy with RPG elements. The press release also says the game will have a "new and intelligent, online community interface." Sounds a bit like the game is turning into Farmville but that remains to be seen.

Update: We got the title of the game a bit wrong. For some reason Ubisoft is calling this game Might and Magic Heroes VI. Odd. In any case we regret the error.

New Might and Magic game announcement coming soon?

It's looking like Ubisoft is prepping us for an announcement for a new game in the long running Might and Magic RPG series. The game's official Facebook page has posted up a very brief CGI trailer showing an angel-like figure and then the title card that you see above.

Ubisoft bought the rights to the franchise from the now defunct 3DO back in 2003. Since then the publisher has released a new game in the spin-off turn-based strategy series, Heroes of Might and Magic V, along with a first person action-RPG, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. However there hasn't been a true continuation of the core Might and Magic RPG series since 3DO released Might and Magic IX way back in 2002. It's likely that this teaser announcement is setting up for a full reveal at Gamescom next week.
