Shutter Island casual game released

If it's been your dream to play a game where your character is supposed to be Leonardo DiCaprio on a island full of crazy people, then you are in luck. Merscom Games has announced that their casual game based on the upcoming movie Shutter Island has now been released and can be purchased and downloaded from several casual game sites, including Bigfishgames.com

The game itself is a hidden object-style adventure game where you are supposed to be playing DiCaprio's movie character of U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels. He heads to Shutter Island, a location for an insane asylum, to find out how one of their "guests" disappeared. Naturally things are a bit more complicated than that. Hey, at least there's not a game based on The Beach.

REO Speedwagon casual game announced (again, we aren't joking)

A couple of months ago you couldn't walk around without noticing all of the attention being given the The Beatles: Rock Band game. But that title is strictly for the consoles. What about us PC users? Well it looks like our platform will get the exclusive privilege of having an REO Speedwagon game.Let us repeat that: AN REO SPEEDWAGON GAME.

The casual publishers at Merscom who just yesterday revealed their plans for a Diagnosis Murder title, announced they would publish Find Your Own Way Home, which has a storyline based on finding out why the band's lead singer Kevin Cronin has gone missing. The game will feature 12 songs from the band include newly recorded versions of their classics like Keep on Loving You. This will apparently be the first of several such games from the new development team called Curious Sense. Our suggestion to them? Their next game should be based on Boston (the band, not the city).

Diagnosis Murder game announced (and no we are not kidding)

Ok, we can see the appeal of a Murder, She Wrote game for a few people out there. The show lasted a long time on CBS and the character of Jessica Fletcher is almost iconic. But we have to draw a line in the sand somewhere and that line was crossed today with the announcement of a Diagnosis Murder PC game.

For those of you who are under 50 (most of you) this CBS show ran almost under the radar for several years with Dick Van Dyke as a doctor who loved to solve murders. It also gave employement to his son Barry Van Dyke who played his son in the show. Merscom is developing this title as a "hidden object" style mystery-adventure game for release in early 2010. So what's next? Jake and The Fatman?

More CBS shows are on the way to the casual game space, by the way, including a previously announced Ghost Whisperer title (due in early 2010) and a recently announced Criminal Minds game, (due in late 2010). Both games are being developed by Legacy Interactive.

Shutter Island movie gets casual game treatment

Most people think of so-called casual games as light and funny. However Merscom Games made an exception to that rule with last year's adaptation of the crime movie Righteous Kill. Today Merscom announced that they will venture into similar territory with a casual game based on the upcoming film Shutter Island.

The film itself, directed by Martin Scorsese, follows two US Marshals as they investigate a case on the island-based insane asylum Ashecliffe. The game is a hidden object based title that will have the player try to locate Ashecliffe patients that have during a recent hurricane. The game will also contain several mini-games "that move the player through Ashecliffe, creating unique interactions with characters from the film".The game will be released on October 2, around the time of the movie's release in theaters.

Mac Monday: Mystic Emporium

This week's Mac Monday title, Mystic Emporium by Merscom, might seem at first blush to be a simple copy of the previously-covered Miriel, the Mystic Merchant, but fortunately, it does iterate a bit on the gameplay, offering a bit more for the money. Add to that a quirky art style and better animation, more item options, and a rudimentary budget system, and it's a great next game for those who enjoyed Miriel.

So what's it all about? Read on to find out!

Eco-sim game released for Earth Day

In case you haven't read the mainstream news lately, today is Earth Day where we are all supposed to become more aware of environmental issues that affect us and our planet. Today publisher Merscom has released (via digital download) Plan It Green, a casual city sim from National Geographic Games.

The idea behind the $9.99 game is to transform the fictional city of Greenville into a more environmentally sustainable community. Homes can be built with solar panels and their land can be used to grow their own food. Energy from other sources such as wind can also be put into your eco-city to power larger buildings. It's not a hardcore game by any means but it is a nice little tie-in with today's activities.

New casual game based on Righteous Kill movie released

Are you talking to me? You broke my heart. Hoo Haw! You...You... Those lines and many more classics come from the mouths of Robert de Niro and Al Pacino and they are both starring in the upcoming cop drama Righteous Kill. But did you know there's a new casual game based on the movie? We didn't either until we got a press release from the game's publisher Merscom.

Folks who might get excited at controlling avatars of De Niro and Pacino will be dissapointed, however as this game is a point-and-click detective adventure title with all new characters in a side story to the movie's storyline. You can download the full game (where you can play free for an hour before being asked for some money) at the game's official web site.
