Max Payne movie director upset with possible R rating

You may have noticed that the trailers for the upcoming movie version of Remedy's Max Payne game series don't have a rating yet, even though the movie is a little more than a month away from release. That's because the Twentieth Century Fox production is trying to get a PG-13 rating for the ultra-violent film. However the MPAA ratings board has slapped an early cut of the film with an R rating which will almost certainly lower its potential take at the box office.

Das Gamer has a chat with the film's director John Moore who expressed frustration over the ratings fight with the MPAA with Max Payne. Moore states, "They said to me, the movie feels R. And I said, "What the f*** is that, a group therapy session?" You can't do that. They're meant to judge content, not intent. They said the movie felt dark." Max Payne is due in theaters on Oct 17.

New international Max Payne movie trailer revealed

Last week Yahoo debuted the final US trailer for Max Payne, the upcoming action movie based on the Remedy developed game series. But you haven't seen anything yet. Yahoo's UK division has the international version of the trailer available to check out as well.

This new version has a number of scenes that were not shown in last week's US trailer and still looks plenty cool with lots of supernatural-like elements, great looking fire effects and plenty of shooting, glass shattering and the like. Can Mark Walhberg make us forget that the studio making Max Payne, Twentieth Century Fox, also made the very crappy adaptation of Hitman last year? We will see when the Max Payne film heads for theaters on Oct. 17.

New Max Payne movie trailer hits the web

We are only a few weeks away from the next attempt by a movie studio to make a successful film based on a video game license. We have seen most of these efforts crash and burn with only a couple of real semi-exceptions (Mortal Kombat and maybe Silent Hill).

Now Yahoo Movies has the exclusive look at the latest trailer for Max Payne, the film based on the Remedy developed third person action game series. From the looks of things this new trailer has both the grim and gritty aspects of the games along with the game's surreal sequences. Starring Mark Walberg, the Twentieth Century Fox produced film is heading for a October 17 release in theaters.

Max Payne movie makes Comic-Con panel appearence

Movies based on video games just don't work well usually but Fox hopes to break that rule with the upcoming adaptation of Remedy's Max Payne third person action series. At last weekend's San Diego Comic-Con, the cast and director of the movie came to show some clips and talk about the adaptation in front of a packed audience panel.

Comingsoon.net has a report on the panel event where the movie's star Mark Walberg stated that after a string of non-action films, "I wanted to kick some ass again." Some of the movie's sequences were filmed using a new digital hard drive camera called the Phantom which can shoot up to 1,000 frames per second. That allowed the filmmakers to do the slow-motion bullet sequences in the game in real time without any visual effects tricks. We will see if Max Payne can break the video game movie curse when it opens in theaters on Oct. 17.

Max Payne movie posters revealed

The San Diego Comic Con officially opens today (the exhibit hall opened for a few hours on Wednesday night) and one of the panels scheduled to be held at the massive pop culture event will be for the upcoming movie version of Max Payne, the Remedy developed action game series. Star Mark Walberg and other members of the cast are scheduled to appear at today's panel to talk about the adaptation which will be in theaters on Oct. 17

However, movie studio Twentieth Century Fox has gone ahead and released not one but two posters for the Max Payne movie for all to see. Comingsoon.net has large versions of both posters to check out (we have reproduced one of them here). You can also check out the official trailer and photos from the movie at the Max Payne movie web site.

First Max Payne movie trailer leaked

It looks like the first trailer for the upcoming movie adaptation of Max Payne has leaked onto the interwebs today. The film, based on Remedy's third person action game series, is due for release in October and stars Mark Walhberg (currently in movie theaters in The Happening) as the title hero. From what we can tell the trailer has all of the shoot-em-up style of action that the games have and also it looks like it has some of the weird dream-like sequences that the games have had as well.

So will Max Payne be the video game film adaptation we have all been waiting for or will it be a repeat of last year's mediocre Hitman (both movies were produced by Twentieth Century Fox)?
