More Max Payne 3 screenshots come forth

Rockstar Games' iron curtain surrounding Max Payne 3 is finally lifting. The upcoming third game in the action game series is the subject of new screenshots posted today on the game's official web site. The game is also the subject of a cover story in the latest issue of the UK-based Edge magazine.

The game was first announced nearly two years ago but aside from a Game Informer cover story Max Payne 3's development has suffered from numerous delays and rumors of issues with the game's development across a number of Rockstar's internal development studios. Rockstar has yet to set a new release date for the game.

More Max Payne 3 details revealed

Rockstar Games is finally letting more info about its long delayed action game sequel Max Payne 3 out the door. VG247.com reports that the latest print issue of EDGE magazine has a new preview of the game. It's the first major preview of the title since Game Informer did a cover story nearly two years ago.

Among the details are that four of Rockstar's internal developers are now working on the game across three countries (Vancouver, New England, Toronto and London). Look for destructible environments, a new cover system and actor James McCaffrey in the role of Max. The biggest new addition is multiplayer for the first time in the history of the series although details have yet to be revealed. There is still no announced release date for Max Payne 3.

Max Payne 3 comes out of the dark with two new screenshots

Max Payne 3 has been pretty much in hiding since the third game in the gritty action game series was first announced over two years ago by publisher Rockstar Games. Aside from a Game Informer cover story in June 2009 there's been no official word as to the status of Max Payne 3 and its release date has been pushed back many times.

Now there's actually some light at the end of the tunnel as Rockstar's Twitter page has posted up links to two new Max Payne 3 screenshots with only the words, "He's coming". The shots are pretty dark but at least we finally know the game is still in development. You can check out the other new screenshot after the jump.

Remedy co-founder departs to join Angry Birds developer Rovio

One of the founders of Remedy Entertainment, Petri Järvilehto, has decided to leave the Finland-based game developer to join another Finland game team, Rovio Media. Yep, that's the folks behind the hugely successful mobile phone game Angry Birds.

At Remedy, Järvilehto helped to develop the first two games in the Max Payne action game series along with last year's Xbox 360 exclusive game Alan Wake. In his new position at Rovio, he will be the company's new Senior Vice President of Console Development. As we reported last month the PC version of Angry Birds has been released via Intel's AppUp program.

Feature: Big Download's 2010 PC Game Vaporware Awards

Every year we are surprised by the number of games that manage to be released. But there are always PC game titles that are announced and then pretty much disappear from view. These are the games that Big Download puts the label "Vaporware" On. Unlike other such web sites, we consider vaporware to be any PC game that was announced, lots of time with much hype, only to go into a cave with little to no info revealed about the game at all.

That's why you won't see games like Diablo III or even Duke Nukem Forever on this list. Yes, they are taking a long time to be completed but at least the development teams behind them have shown the game off in playable form in the past year and it looks like they may actually be released. But that's not the case with most of the games on our new 2010 PC game vaporware list. While they may all finally come out of their shell, we have no idea when that will be at this point.

So which games made our top 10 list this year? Check after the jump to find out for yourself. Just be careful: It's dark in there.

Max Payne 3: Still not dead, says Take Two

On Thursday, publisher Take Two Interactive announced its financial results for the past three and 12 months and also gave a revised released schedule of its upcoming games. There wasn't any real changes for the games listed but one upcoming title wasn't listed at all. That was Max Payne 3, the long-in-development third game in the action series begun by Remedy.

The game from developer Rockstar Vancouver was first announced back in May 2009 but aside from an early Game Informer cover story there's been no real previews of the game and its release date has been pushed back several times. Kotaku checked in with Take Two about the missing Max Payne 3 and was assured by the publisher that the game is still in play. The official statement? "We're still working hard on Max, and we'll have more news in the coming months."

Take Two Interactive announces better revenues for last quarter

Publisher Take Two Interactive is always the last of the publicly trade game publishers to reveal its financial results. Today the company revealed that for the quarter that ended on July 31 it generated $354.1 million in revenue, a massive increase compared to the $94.9 million it made for the same period a year ago. Take Two recorded a profit of $12.4 million for the quarter compared to a loss of $58.3 million for the same period a year ago.

Part of the reason for the better numbers were the high sales of the console only game Red Dead Redemption which Take Two said has sold 6.9 million copies since its release last May. The publisher's PC game release schedule includes Civilization V, NBA 2K11 and the next Borderlands DLC release. Oddly, the press release makes no mention of Max Payne 3, the long-in-development action game that's been delayed a number of times.

E3 2010: The PC Games That Went Missing

The 2010 edition of E3 has been over for a week now but we are still recovering from checking out all of the titles that we saw at the Los Angeles Convention Center. There were also lots of games that were there we didn't get to see unfortunately. But most importantly of all were the games we know are being made but still didn't make it to the show.

E3 is unquestionably the single biggest event in the game industry but for a variety of reasons some highly anticipated PC titles were not even shown in trailer form at the event. So which games went missing? We just happened to have created a handy list of titles that we think could have made an appearance of some type at the show.

Max Payne 3 gets another delay; moves out of Take Two's fiscal 2010 year

It's looking like the release of Max Payne 3 is suffering from some severe production issues. The next game in the third person shooter series has had its release date pushed back yet again by publisher Take Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games. In their latest financial press release Take Two said Max Payne 3 'has been moved out of fiscal 2010." Take Two's fiscal year ends on October 31.

The game was first announced back in March 2009 with a "winter 2009" release date. Developed by Rockstar Vancouver (taking over from the game's originators Remedy) Max Payne 3 has had its release date pushed back more than once since the original announcement. It now looks like the game will be released over a year after it was originally scheduled to ship.

Rockstar Games pulls out of E3 2010

It looks like Take Two Interactive's Rockstar Games brand won't be present at E3 2010 later this month. Computer and Video Games is reporting that a Rockstar rep has told them, " ,,, we simply don't have enough time to show as much as we would like in the time available."

Rockstar was supposed to show at least two games at the show, including the long-in-development action game sequel Max Payne 3. If you believe the internet rumors Rockstar was also supposed to announce a new game in the Grand Theft Auto series at E3 as well. Rockstar says now they plan to hold more traditional press events at its
headquarters "in the coming weeks."
