Only two Modern Warfare 2 map packs planned, timed-360 exclusives [Update]

For those looking for new content in their Modern Warfare 2 before the game is even released, this will be good news. Modern Warfare 2 is receiving two map packs after release, which is only one less than the amount of packs available for World at War, which just recently released a pack itself. While this may seem like it is a step back, keep in mind that Modern Warfare 2 is being done by Infinity Ward, not Treyarch, and that the first Modern Warfare only got one map pack.

It's not all good news, though. Along with consoles getting the Hardened and Prestige editions while PC users are left in the cold, the 360 in particular is going to be receiving new map packs way before the PS3 or PC. On the bright side, all you PC users can look forward to not having to pay a dime for your new maps, while those on the 360 and PS3 have to shill out for new environs to play in.

Update: While two map packs have been announced, MTV Multiplayer reports that Infinity Ward might do even more map packs

Take on the Fortress... for free!

In this the year of the Beijing Olympics, Valve is offering gamers a chance to go for the gold. Starting Friday, May 2 and going Sunday the 4th, everyone can play Team Fortress 2 for free! Free is good no matter how you slice, but they're tossing in three brand new features to boot!

Gold Rush is a brand spanking new map complete with a new mode called "Payload." Teams are split on offense (Blu) and defense (Red) just like in Dustbowl, but the object of the Blu team is to literally push a payload full of bombs from one capture point to the next until all three of Red's bases are blown to smithereens.

Over the next year Valve will be rolling out the biggest change to the game. Starting with the Medic class players will be able to earn three unique items by first earning some or all of the new achievements (for Medics there are 36 in all). These items will give players new choices as to how they play the class as well as offering new benefits for the team they're playing on. The other eight classes will be rolled out soon after the initial release.
