GoGamer.com brings new PC games sales out of its closet

As we head into Halloween weekend, the PC game sales tradition will be in full effect. Retail web site GoGamer.com is doing its part with their (for once) correctly labled 48 Hour Madness event. The sale ends at 3 am Eastern time on Friday.

As they did with their last sale they are offering one game, the 2007 released sci-fi RTS game Maelstrom, for $0.00 (that translates in any language to FREE). Other games on sale this time include Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising for $29.90, Nexus: The Jupiter Incident for $7.90, Space Empires V for $6.90 and Spellforce Universe for a mere 90 cents. That's cheap. Not as cheap as $0.00 but still . . .

GoGamer.com offers up more PC game sales including one for free (?)

They are usually quiet during the week but the retail web site GoGamer.com has come through again with their once again mis-named 48 Hour Madness sale. There's lots of PC games with major price cuts that will stay on sale until 3 am RT Tuesday.

One interesting sale is for Maelstrom, the sci-fi RTS game from developer KD-Vision and publisher Codemasters that was released in 2007. According to the site, the game is being sold for $0.00. That sounds like another term for "free" to us (although you still have to pay for shipping and handling). There's lots of other PC games that have their normal prices cut dramatically at GoGamer.com but none quite so much as Maelstrom. We hope that's not a reflection of the game itself.

GoGamer.com has more PC game sales (including one for 50 cents)

Retail game web site GoGamer.com has started up yet another of their PC game sales. This particular one lasts until 3 am ET on Wednesday or while supplies of the game lasts. As per the usual with their sales the games are a mix of new titles and much older games at rock bottom prices.

In fact you can't get much more rock bottom in price than Maelstrom. The 2007 sci-fi RTS game from Codemasters is on sale for a mere 50 cents (and that's not a typo). Other games on sale include BlackSite: Area 51 for just $1.90, Battlestations Midway for $3.90 and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars for just $4.90. On the other side of the spectrum you can pre-order the upcoming Wolfenstein game for $39.90, $10 off its normal price.

Lots of ultra-cheap games on sale at GoGamer.com this weekend

Mail order retail gaming site GoGamer.com always cuts prices to the bone on many of their PC games for the weekend. It's no exception for this, the first week of April, as their 48 hour madness sale has a boatload of ultra-cheap games to choose from.

Many of the games are just $2 this weekend, including The Movies, Act of War, and others. Several $3 games are available like Vanguard, Shadowrun and Battlestations Midway. There's even a $1 game this weekend; the 2007 Codemasters sci-fi RTS title Maelstrom. That's a whopping 97 percent price cut from it's normal $29.99 price tag. Happy shopping.

MacMonday: Maelstrom

On today's MacMonday, we're going seriously old school, to the tune of 1993, when Ambrosia Software sold their first game, Maelstrom. Just as it's easy to dismiss last MacMonday's Big Kahuna Reef 2: Chain Reaction as a Bejeweled clone, Maelstrom takes as its source the classic coin-op Asteroids.

Yet the differences between the two titles are vast indeed, going beyond the color palette and updated graphics. We'll go into detail and examine why Maelstrom is just as addictive and playable today as it was 15 years ago.
