As promised, Valve has made Wednesdays the day for new game releases for the Mac side of their Steam game download service. This week 12 new Mac titles have been added to Steam including the promised Mac port of Tripwire Interactive's zombie shooter Killing Floor. Also out this week is the Mac port of Altitude, the side-scrolling action game from Nimbly Games, and Madballs in Babo: Invasion, the quirky action game from developer Playbrains. All three games have online multiplayer modes that allows Mac users to play with their PC counterparts.

Also this week all three games have discounted prices with Killing Floor priced at $13.39, Madballs at $4.99, the Madballs Combo Pack (the game plus DLC releases) at $9.09, and Altitude at $4.99. The very unique multiplayer oriented action game Madballs in Babo: Invasion has been available via Steam since last September and the development team at Playbrains has been busy updating the title with both free and paid downloadable content. Now the dev team is opening up the full game for everyone to play for free this weekend.

If you like the free weekend, Playbrains is also giving folks a 75 percent discount to purchase the title this weekend as well. The price of the game is just $2.49 and you can also get the four-pack version (where you can give three download codes to friends) for just $7.49. Finally you can get a copy of the game plus two of its paid downloadable packs for just $3.37.

The development team at PlayBrains has been very good in updating their unusual action game Madballs in Babo:Invasion with lots of both free and paid content since its release on Steam in 2009. This week both the full game and the free demo got an unusual update with the addition of an all new game, Babo Crash.

The game is PlayBrains' homage to puzzle games like Bejeweled and in fact is being sold as a separate game for the iPhone/iPod Touch and also for Android-based phones. Indeed the free version of Babo Crash in the PC Madballs game is formatted to look like you are playing it on an iPhone. It's a nice and unexpected update to the game.

Developer Playbrains first released Madballs in Babo:Invasion for the Xbox 360 but the PC version of the unusual action game has gotten a ton of extra content since its release on Steam. This week the game got not one but two small pieces of paid downloadable content along with a major free update that adds clan support.

The clan support allows player clans to set up multiplayer matches on dedicated servers along with clan leaderboards and more. The free update also has some gameplay balance changes and bug fixes. The new downloadable content releases include the $1.49 Campaign Pack which lets people skip the single player campaign and level up just with multiplayer matches. It also adds some new player skins. The 99 cents Turkey Coma Skins Pack adds more player skins.

After a fairly slow first couple of weeks in September, there's a ton of major PC games making their debut on store shelves and/or via download this week:

Batman: Arkham Asylum: Already highly acclaimed for consoles, this super hero action game from Rocksteady Studios and Eidos is released for the PC this week as the Caped Crusader has to deal with the Joker and a ton of other Arkham inmates. Look for PhysX and 3D monitor support if you have Nvidia graphics cards in your PC.

Earlier this year we reported that developer Playbrains was working on an action-arcade game based on those goofy 1980's Madballs rubber balls. The game, Madballs in Babo: Invasion, was released via Xbox Live Arcade earlier this summer. Now Playbrains has announced that the game is coming to the PC platform, via download on Steam, on September 17.

Just a reminder of what you are in for with this title: The game is designed like a top-down shooter as the various Madballs battle each other in maps that are randomly generated. Look for single player, co-op for up to four players and 16 player multiplayer in this game. Pricing for the game is set for $9.99.

Those of us who grew up in the 80s might remember playing with Madballs. The rubber toy balls with very disgusting faces were a big hit among the pre-teen crowd a couple of decades ago. In 2006 toy maker Art Asylum got the rights to make new Madballs products from its original owner American Greetings (yep, the greeting card company).

Now Canadian-based game developer Playbrains has just announced plans to bring Madballs to the PC platform (via Stea) along with Xbox Live Arcade.The game itself, titled Madballs in Babo: Invasion is a top-down shooter as the various Madballs battle each other in maps that are randomly generated. Look for single player, co-op for up to four players and 16 player multiplayer in this game which is due for release sometime this summer.
