Mac Monday: Caster

While the Mac gaming market seems to bear a preponderance of puzzle/hidden object titles, there are still a few gems that pop up now and again to reward the faithful. Enter: Caster, from Elecorn. Caster is an action shooter that features a pretty effective sense of speed and a VERY effective induction of simulation sickness. This may be the title that finally forces me to test whether or not ginger or dramamine will work to combat the apparent-motion-related nausea that this game causes, because I enjoyed playing it enough that I may want to purchase it. Why? Read on!

City of Heroes finally coming to the Mac

One of the most popular and longest running MMO titles is finally getting a native Macintosh port. That game is City of Heroes, the super hero MMO from publisher (and now developer) NCsoft. Today the company announced that the game would be ported over to the Mac platform by TransGaming, who has handled a number of PC-to-Mac game ports.

The Mac version of City of Heroes will be released as a digital download game by the end of 2008 with beta testing to begin around the time the game's free "Issue 13" expansion is released. Mac users will be able to play with their PC counterparts in the same world and Mac gamers will get all of the updates and content expansions at the same time as PC players of the game. Aspyr to launch Game Agent download service

Austin based game developer and publisher Aspyr is apparently planning to enter the highly competitive game download businesses. According to a press release issued by e-commerce company Digital River, Aspyr will launch a digital store for select Macintosh and PC titles later this summer (Digital River will host and manage the service).

For Macintosh owners this could be a welcome change since Aspyr is one of the leading developers and publishers of Mac games, especially for ports of popular PC and console games like Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Guitar Hero III, and the upcoming Call of Duty 4. Since most game download sites and services are just for PC games this move could open up a new audience of folks eager to play Mac games (especially since finding a Macintosh game title in stores is next to impossible these days).
