Lucidity gets new patch

Last October, LucasArts released Lucidity. The downloadable action-puzzle game was the developer/publisher's first original game title in several years (you can check out our review of the game right here). However, some players have apparently found the game too difficult to finish.

Now LucasArts has issued a recent patch to the PC version of the game (automatically via Steam) that will "include the addition of checkpoints." That means players won't have to start the game from the beginning of their last level as they did before. Meanwhile check out the previous entries on the LucasArts Workshop blog site to check out entries from the game's development team on how Lucidity was made.

Review: Lucidity

LucasArts has been lagging behind in original content over the past few years. Once known for their incredibly engaging and original games, they have instead focused on expanding their established franchises of Star Wars and Indiana Jones. As a part of the revitalization of old and original LucasArts properties, the Secret of Monkey Island game was remade in high-definition. One the team was done with Monkey Island, they decided to make something else. Something original. Lucidity was the result of this. A mixture of puzzle, adventure, and platformer genres, it's nostalgic both through its simple gameplay and in the notion that LucasArts genuinely wants to create new, valuable properties for their portfolio. It may not be mind-blowing, but it's not half bad either.

This Week In PC Games: October 5-11

A military shooter, the latest Star Wars game and three downloadable titles are the highlights in new PC games for the next week:

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
: Codemasters developed this military shooter sequel on their own (the first game was made by Bohemia Interactive). The game is set in the near future where US and Chinese forces fight over a fictional island. Look for 70 weapons in the full game, support for realistic ballistics and multiplayer for co-op and deathmatch modes.

Lucidity trailer launches into a fantastic world

In anticipation of the October 7th launch of Lucidity, LucasArts has released this short trailer featuring plenty of gameplay. Lucidity is a puzzle/platforming game set in the surreal dreamscape of a little girl named Sofi. The game will be available through digital retail outlets and will cost $9.99.

"In Lucidity, players take a trip into the imagination of Sofi, a young girl who is filled with a persistent desire to explore new worlds and overcome all obstacles in her way. In this challenging puzzle platform game, players are tasked with keeping Sofi safe as she drifts deeper into the strange new world of her dreams. Through quick reaction and placement of randomly generated puzzle pieces, players must create a path through beautifully detailed dreamscapes to keep Sofi in perpetual motion and deliver her to safety."

Lucidity to be priced at $9.99

LucasArts' first foray into releasing original downloadable games now has a price tag. When they first announced their plans for the side scroller-puzzle game Lucidity they didn't reveal a price tag. Now the LucasArts Workshop blog site has confirmed that the game will be priced at just $9.99.

The game will be sold on October 7 via Steam and Direct2Drive for the PC version (it's also coming to the Xbox 360 via Xbox Live Arcade). It's certainly an experiment for LucasArts to create a game that has indie sensibilities but was made internally at their own offices. Hopefully if sales are good it won't be the last thing the LucasArts Workshop team creates.

Lucidity gameplay video follows the red dot

LucasArts only announced Lucidity, an upcoming puzzle/platforming game, this morning but it's already winning us over with its beauty and imagination, as demonstrated by this gameplay video. Created by a small team at LucasArts, also responsible for the recent remake of The Secret of Monkey Island, Lucidity marks a renewed creative focus on developing games that "surprise, amaze and inspire."

Lucidity will release via Xbox Live and via digital distribution on the PC on October 7th.

LucasArts officially confirms Lucidity

As promised, GameTrailersTV confirmed the existance of a new internally developed game from LucasArts earlier this morning and it turns out it's a game which got its reveal leaked a couple of months ago. It's called Lucidity and it's apparently coming to both the PC and Xbox Live Arcade platforms in downloadable format.

As described and shown on the show, the game is a 2D combination of a side scroller and a puzzle game. The main character Sophie runs through the levels with an art style that reminds you of a children's book. The catch? You are not actually controlling Sophie; she runs from point A to point B of her own free will. You have to make sure she gets to point B by solving puzzles that enable her to reach her destination. Apparently the game will be released on Xbox Live Arcade later this month but there's no word on when the PC version will be released.
