Lost Planet movie won't be loyal to game's plot

Several months ago it was announced that Warner Bros. was working on an adaptation of Lost Planet, Capcom's third person action game that was released for the PC not once but twice (with the original game and Lost Planet Colonies that contained new material. People wondering if we will see the same plot from the game translated to the screen, however, could be in for a dissapointment.

G4TV reports that Capcom's Jun Takeuchi, the producer of the upcoming (and so far Xbox 360 and PS3 only) sequel Lost Planet 2) stated that the movie version "is completely different from the game" in terms of its storyline although both movie and game share the same world.

Is Lost Planet 2 coming to the PC?

A few months ago, Capcom announced plans to release Lost Planet 2, their sequel to their hit third person action game. While the title is still officially an Xbox 360 exclusive there are strong hints that the title will be coming to the PC as well.

One hint is that the original Lost Planet, along with its expanded version Lost Planet Colonies, were both released for the PC (indeed Lost Planet Colonies is one of the few games that supports PC-Xbox 360 cross platform multiplayer). In a recent press event, Kotaku reports that Capcom was demoing Lost Planet 2 on a PC rig, not an Xbox 360 dev kit. The Capcom rep, when asked if a PC version was indeed in the works, stated, " . . . . there may be something we can announce fairly shortly." Lost Planet 2 takes the original game out of the snow and ice and into a trpoical jungle setting and will feature co-op multiplayer for the first time.

Lost Planet gets 75 percent sale on Steam this weekend

Valve's regular weekend sale from their Steam service is a particularly timely one. For this weekend only you can download and purchase Capcom's 2007 third person sci-fi action game Lost Planet for just $4.99. That's 75 percent off its normal Steam price.

Lost Planet was one of the first PC games released that supported DirectX10 graphical features. In 2008 Capcom released Lost Planet Colonies which contained the original game with some new features and cross-platform multiplayer support with the Xbox 360 version. This week Capcom announced plans to release a full fledged sequel, Lost Planet 2. However at the moment the publisher is only officially confirming that it will be released for the Xbox 360. However it's likely that Capcom will port the game to the PC as well.

Lost Planet Colonies goes gold, coming May 27

For those antsy to enter a barren winter wasteland, where the people hunt the eggs of giant homicidal insectoid alien things, you're in luck. Capcom has announced today that their bug-hunting epic, Lost Planet Colonies, has finally gone gold, and will be available to all who wish to partake in its wintry splendor in two weeks. So grab your thermos, gun, and overcoat (which Frank seems to be missing) and prepare for some awesome bug-killing action.

New Lost Planet Colonies screenshots show off the Egg Bandit mode

Capcom's 2007 sci-fi action game Lost Planet is about to get a revamp later this month with the release of Lost Planet Colonies. We's reported about this game before; new single and multiplayer modes, new maps, new weapons and cross platform multiplayer support between the PC and Xbox 360 versions via Games for Windows Live (it will be only the third game to offer such support, Shadowrun and Universe at War: Earth Assault are the other two).

Today Capcom released a boatload of new screenshots from Lost Planet Colonies that show off scenes from one of the new multiplayer modes, Egg Bandit. This mode has you stealing your enemies Akrid egg and the longer you hold onto it the more points you accumulate. You can also see some of the new maps in the revamp and some of the new mech weapons that you can access. It's looking more and more that Lost Planet Colonies will be a terrific game with a great value price of $29.99.

New Lost Planet Colonies screenshots show off Akrid Hunt goodness

Capcom's upcoming release of their sci-fi action game Lost Planet Colonies is shaping up to be far more than just the typical revision of an older title. The new version of the game (released back in 2007 simply as Lost Planet) will have a ton of new single and multiplayer modes added to the original. Some new screenshots from the game have been released and show off our favorite new mode, Akrid Hunt, where one player gets to control the massive Akrid monster while other players try desperately to bring it down.

Some of the new screenshots also show off some of the new character models in the game (including one who apparently thinks this is a clothing-optional game). In addition to the new modes, Lost Planet Colonies will also add new weapons, maps and the ability for PC players to play against Xbox 360 players in cross-platform multiplayer. Look for the game to be released to stores in late May for the bargain price of $29.95
