Review: Lost Planet 2

Lost Planet 2 is a spectacular looking game that's a wreck in almost every other respect. For starters, if you're looking for a satisfying single player experience, then go ahead and skip this game completely. Lackluster story aside, the game simply isn't designed for single player. Then again, the multiplayer is barely passable since, despite having plenty of features, a number of design flaws drain away practically all enjoyment. It's really too bad, because the PC version of Lost Planet 2 includes a number of improvements over its console release. However, being more playable than its counterpart isn't a lot to be proud of.

Big Download's News Bits & Bytes - October 4

With DC Universe Online being pushed back to early 2011, it looks like this fall's PC game lineup is looking a bit sparse than in previous years. On the other hand the first quarter of 2011 is looking like it will have plenty of new PC game titles.

Lost Planet 2 PC due out on October 15; benchmark test released

Capcom's profits plunge over 90 percent in latest quarter

Japanese publisher Capcom's days of huge profits are apparently over. Today the company announced that profits for its latest quarter that ended on June 30 plunged down 90.4 percent to 213 million yen. Revenue for Capcom was 19,037 million yen, down 2.4 percent from the same period a year ago.

Capcom blamed the profit shortfall in part on the console release of its action game Lost Planet 2 where it said sales of the game "underperformed its projection substantially." The game is due for release on the PC sometime this fall. Despite the profit hit, Capcom is not changing its expectations for the rest of the fiscal year due to its upcoming release schedule. That includes Dead Rising 2, its zombie action game sequel that's due on the PC and other platforms on September 28.

Capcom's full year profits plunge

Capcom's financial numbers for their last full fiscal year (which ended on March 31) took a hit due in part to what the publisher said was "weak sales of some new titles". They specificly pointed to the release of 2009's Bionic Commando and this year's Dark Void, stating both titles "underperformed their sales and remained weak."

Overall Capcom's revenues for the full fiscal year went down 23 percent compared to the year before, while profits plunged 73.1 percent from the same period a year ago. However Capcom expects a rebound in their numbers in the current fiscal year with titles like Lost Planet 2 (coming to the PC this fall) and Dead Rising 2 (due out in August).

Capcom officially confirms Lost Planet 2 PC port; coming this fall

For months, Capcom has not officially confirmed plans to bring their sci-fi action game sequel Lost Planet 2 to the PC, even though the original game was released to the PC platform and the ESRB web site listed the game as being rated for the PC. This week, however, the Capcom blog site finally admitted (and pretty much buried in the main story) that Lost Planet 2 would indeed be coming to the PC

Unfortunately, we will have to wait a bit longer to get the game on our hard drives as the PC port won't be released until sometime this fall. In the meantime the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will ship on May 11.
