Paradox takes over publishing Sword of the Stars

A few weeks ago we reported on the shutdown of small PC publisher Lighthouse Interactive. Today it was announced that one of Lighthouse's former games has found a new publisher. Sword of the Stars, the space strategy game from developer Kerberos Productions, is now under Paradox Interactive's wing.

Paradox plans to release Sword of the Stars: Ultimate Collection via digital download on April 17. The collection will contain the original 2006 released game and its two expansion packs Born of Blood and A Murder of Crows. In the press release announcing the game's new publisher, Paradox's CEO hinted that future Sword of the Stars games may be in the works.

Lighthouse Interactive shuts down

One of the smaller PC game publishers has now shut down its operations. That company is Lighthouse Interactive, perhaps best known for publishing the space strategy game Sword of the Stars and its two expansion packs for developer Kerberos Productions.

The European based Lighthouse Interactive was bought in the spring of 2008 by the Canadian based company Silverbirch in a deal that at the time was worth $4 million. However Silverbirch went under earlier this year and apparently Lighthouse Interactive could not continue without the support of the parent company. The publisher's official web site is still online for now. One of the games that was to be published by Lighthouse, East India Company, has already found a new home at Paradox Interactive.

New Sword of the Stars expansion goes gold

It's an expansion that up until last month we didn't know existed but now Lighthouse Interactive has announced that Sword of the Stars: A Murder of Crows has actually gone gold. The second expansion to the space strategy game developed by Kerberos Productions adds the game's sixth playable race (the Morrigi) along with new ships, weapons and more for the previous races to the game.

The title will be released in retail stores in the UK on October 10 but Gamersgate will let anyone purchase and download the expansion pack. It does require you own and install the previously released expansion pack Born in Blood or the Sword of the Stars Collector's Edition. Oh, and we have six new screenshots from A Murder of Crows to show off as well.
