Review: Divinity 2: The Dragon Knight Saga

We don't really get a lot of truly awful games to play on Big Download, as most are at least somewhat competent. Still, there are a few that straddle the line between being hilariously and depressingly bad. Divinity 2: The Dragon Knight Saga is one of these games. While the first Divinity was a tepid Diablo clone with a generic story, it was still passable when it came to the presentation and gameplay. Divinity 2 completely fails on almost every level, and that's after a reissue with enhanced graphics and rebalanced gameplay. We fear what the original game is like if this is the far more playable version. This is a game that only the most dedicated of hack and slash players should play, even if there were elements of the game that were approached with a remote amount of care.

Divinity II: Ego Draconis expansion pack and collection released

In January 2010, Divinity iI: Ego Draconis was released here in the US. The fantasy RPG from developer Larian Studios was quickly followed up by the announcement of an expansion pack, Flames of Vengeance, as well as a collection, Divinity II The Dragon Knight Saga, that has a remastered version of the original game and the Flames of Vengeance expansion.

Still with us? Ok. This week both Divinity II: Flames of Vengeance and Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga have been released via download at the game's official web site by publisher Focus Home Interactive and at download sites like Direct2Drive and Gamersgate with $19.95 for the expansion pack and $39.95 for the collection. The Steam download site just has Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga available but it has three exclusive in-game armor packs and a 33 percent discount for Steam owners of the original Divinity II game. Confusing? Yep.

Divinity II The Dragon Knight Saga coming in October (in Europe)

Early in 2010 CDV released Divinity II, the fantasy RPG sequel from developer Larian Studios, here in the US. While CDV is basically no more here in this country, that isn't stopping Larian Studios from announcing plans for Divinity II The Dragon Knight Saga, a revamped version of the game with additional content.

Focus Home Interactive plans to publish the game in October in Europe but at the moment there's no word on a US release for the game. Divinity II The Dragon Knight Saga will include the original game but with improved graphics. It will also contain the new expansion pack Divinity II Flames of Vengeance.

Divinity II expansion pack announced

Released in the US in early January, the fantasy RPG Divinity II from developer Larian Studios will be getting an expansion pack later this summer. Divinity II: Flames of Vengeance will be released for the PC (and also for the Xbox 360 via download) in August. The expansion pack will continue where the ending of the original game left off with the Dragon knight character continuing his quest to fight the evil in the game's world of Rivellon.

The press release promised that the expansion pack will add 15 more hours of gameplay. In addition the original game's graphics engine is supposed to get "a solid overhaul, improving performance and graphics quality along the way." CDV published Divinity II in the US but at the moment there's no word if they will do the same for the expansion.

Divinity 2 trailer faces its worst enemies

No adventure would be complete without loads of danger, and the lands Rivellon in Divinity 2 don't disappoint. Creatures of various shapes and sizes stand before adventurers, ready to crush and dismember them. Players can get a first-hand look at some of these monsters with the playable demo, which can be downloaded here. Divinity 2 is available in stores and through digital retailers now.

"The sequel to the critically acclaimed action-RPG Divine Divinity, Divinity II - Ego Draconis transports players back to the wide-open, war-torn world of Rivellon where they will battle the forces of evil not just as a human warrior, but also as a powerful Dragon Knight! Developed by Larian Studios, Divinity II boasts a robust fantasy adventure of more than 60 hours, teeming with massive dungeons and outdoor spaces to explore. It offers deep on-the-ground and aerial combat, and an intrigue to unravel that could reveal hidden truths and revive forgotten evils, changing the face of Rivellon forever."

Divinity II publisher gives out a chance to win a custom gaming PC

The first big PC game to be released in 2010 will the the US debut of Larian Studios' fantasy RPG game Divinity II in the first week of January. The game from publisher CDV is stepping up its marketing plan by offering a sweepstates where the winner gets what you see above; a desktop PC with a custom painted Divinity II art design.

Aside from the case, this gaming PC seems to have a solid system packed inside as well with a DirectX11 supported ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card, a 24 inch monitor and more. The contest ends on December 28 so while the winner will have to wait until after the holidays to get his or her prize we have a suspicion it will be worth it.

GoG.com adds Beyond Divinity to game library

The DRM-free web site GoG.com has, as previously promised, added Beyond Divinity to its list of game titles. This is the 2004 follow-up to developer Larian Studios' fantasy RPG Divine Divinity but it's not actually a sequel but rather a spin-off that is only loosely connected to the first game.

You can now purchase and download the game from GoG.com for $9.99 which includes free extras like the game's soundtrack, wallpapers, avatars and even a 53 page prose novella set in the Divinity universe. As we have mentioned before, Larian's next game in the series, Divinity 2, will be released in the US via CDV on January 5.

Divinity II release date announced; PC owners denied pre-order bonus

The all important pre-order bonus is becoming more and more of an incentive to purchase a game before it is released. CDV has just announced such a program for the upcoming US release of the fantasy RPG Divinity II. The game, from developer Larian Studios, will ship to stores on January 5 after previously being released in Europe.

Unfortunately for people who want to buy the PC version of the game, they will be denied a chance to get the pre-order bonus that the Xbox 360 version will receive. CDV announced that the console buyers will gain access to the in-game Blood Echelon Armor and Weapon set. It's just the latest example of PC consumers being denied a pre-order bonus and/or a special edition of a game versus their console counterparts.

GoG.com adds Divine Divinity to game line-up

For its Thursday update, the classic DRM-free PC game download site GoG.com has added Divine Divinity, the first game in the series of fantasy RPGs from developer Larian Studios. The original game was first released in 2002 and is now on sale at GoG.com for $5.99. The game also comes with a free separate soundtrack, wallpapers, game artwork, avatars and prose short story that acts as a prequel to the game.

GoG.com intends to add the game's sequel, Beyond Divinity, at some point in the future. As we have reported earlier this year, Larian's next game, Divinity II: Ego Draconis, will be released by publisher CDV in the near future in the US.
