Publisher Square Enix announced its latest financial numbers for the company's nine month period that ended on December 31, 2010. Revenues came in at 98.1 billion yen for the period which was down 28 percent compared to the same period a year ago. Profits came in at 1.8 billion yen, a whopping 77 percent reduction from the same period a year ago.

The bug-filled launch of the fantasy MMO Final Fantasy XIV was perhaps a big reason for the shortfall as Square Enix has delayed taking monthly subscriptions for the game indefinitely until the development team can fix and improve the game. In 2011, Square Enix plans to release at least two PC games; the action-RPG Dungeon Siege III and the long awaited Deus Ex Human Revolution.

The Steam PC game download site continues to willingly give out some huge one-day price cuts on top of the sales that are already in place as part of its annual holiday sales event. Here's the latest list of games with price cuts that will last until 1 pm Eastern time on Thursday:

Today is the second day for Steam's Thanksgiving daily sales event and PC game download site has a nice selection of titles and price cuts for the next 22 hours. Look for games like Defense Grid The Awakening for $2,50, EVE Online for $5, Deathspank for $10.04, AudioSurf for $2.50, Kane and Lynch 2 for $5, Batman Arkham Asylum Game of the Year Edition for $10.20 and Cities XL 2011 for $29.99.

There's also a bundle of five indie games (And Yet It Moves, Gish, Puzzle Agent, Jolly Roger and Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale) for just $4.99. You can get gift pack deals for Defense Grid ($14.99 for 10 copies) AudioSurf ($19.99 for 12 copies), Left 4 Dead 2 ($24.99 for 6 copies) and Puzzle Quest 2 ($34.99 for 10 copies)

Publisher Square Enix issued some revised financial numbers today. The company revealed that the company's net income for the April-September 2010 time period was down 29.2 percent from previous estimated sales predictions.

Square Enix said part of the reason for the shortfall was due to "sales of new game software releases which experienced relatively slower growth." While specific games were not mentioned in the press release it's likely that Square Enix means that new titles released in that time period such as Kane and Lynch 2 and Final Fantasy XIV Online did not sell as many units as the company anticipated.

The on again-off again movie adaptation of Io Interactive's Kane and Lynch action game franchise is now reportedly off again. The Los Angeles Times reports that the movie version was supposed to start filming in October but now word is that the movie's planned director Patrick Alessandrin is no longer involved.

Now the producers of the long gestating movie at Millenium Films have decided to push back the movie's start date until early 2011 while they look for yet another director. Wayne Kramer, F. Gary Gray and Antoine Fuqua are all in the running but so far nothing is settled yet. Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx are still, at least at the moment, planning to play the title characters.

The comic book industry is buzzing today on the news of major changes at DC Entertainment, the Warner Bros-owned subsidiary that includes both the DC Comics and Wildstorm Comics brands. Today it was announced that the comic book division will remain in New York while other aspects of DC Entertainment's business, including its PC and console game licensing group, will be moved to a new location in Burbank, California near Warner Bros' offices by the end of 2011.

One of the consequences of the changes is that the Wildstorm Comics brand will be shut down. The last comics under that brand will ship out in December. Wildstorm published and continues to release a bunch of game-related comic book adaptations. However those comics, which include current and near future titles based on World of Warcraft, Kane and Lynch, Assassin's Creed and End of Nations, will continue under the DC Comics brand.

It's been a fairly slow week for the first half but today things picked up with a number of new game announcements including a new Section 8 game that, from the looks of things, is being self-published by Timegate. Cool.

• New bug patches have been released via Steam for Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days, Tropico 3 and Tropico 3 Absolute Power, and the Counter-Strike Source beta.
• Until 1 pm Eastern time Friday you can get Blood Bowl on Direct2Drive for just $19.95 and Star Wars Battlefront 2 for a mere $4.95
• There's a new graphics driver hotfix for ATI AMD Radeon graphics cards that improves performance for H.A.W.X.

Kane and Lynch 2 is pulling in a modest amount of cash, so the developers are hard at work pumping out everyone's favorite miniature additions. In this case, it's a 3-map, 5-weapon pack for $6, and this trailer gives a low-down of the goodies you get for the $6. Kane and Lynch has fairly decent multiplayer, so this trailer should be fairly interesting to anybody who already has the game. We love the look of the new maps, but the guns are nothing particularly special. Just another day in the life of Kane and Lynch!

It takes planning, coordination and plenty of firepower to pull off a $4 million dollar heist in four minutes. However, the three new Kane & Lynch 2 multiplayer and arcade mode DLC expansion packs that released yesterday should help players gain an advantage. The packs are: The Doggie Bag Pack, Alliance Weapons Pack, and Multiplayer Mask Pack. Collectively, these DLC expansion include new weapons, some new maps, and menacing new masks for players to wear during the heist. The recently released third person shooter Kane and Lynch 2 Dog Days didn't waste any time offering downloadable content for players. The PC version of the game has no less than three new paid DLC options which can now be downloaded via Steam. The biggest one is the Doggie Bag Pack which has two new multiplayer maps (Dockyard and High Rise) plus the Radio Tower map that was included as a pre-order bonus for GameStop purchase. It also has five new weapons and can be purchased for $5.99.

Two more smaller DLC releases are also available. The Alliance Weapons Pack adds seven new firearms in multiplayer modes for $2.99 while the Multiplayer Mask Pack adds eight new masks for players to use for $1.99. You can check out our verdict on the game right here.
